About The Position

This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States. Sargent & Lundy is one of the largest and most experienced power industry engineering and consulting firms. This position in Sargent & Lundy’s Consulting group will require you to work on our project teams that provide a wide variety of services, such as technical consulting and advisory services to power project developers to support new utility-scale solar, wind, gas, battery energy storage, and other projects; independent engineering and due diligence services for lenders and investors to evaluate the financing of new power and infrastructure projects; technical, economic, and market studies for grid operators, utilities, and research agencies; and planning studies and business case development for utilities, independent power producers, and government agencies. This position is being added to support the continued growth of the Sargent & Lundy Consulting group, particularly in the renewable energy, battery energy storage, and utility planning / advisory practice areas. Our Consulting Group works with clients across the United States and in numerous other countries. This position will require a great deal of face-to-face interaction with power plant developers and owners, as well as lenders and investors, during the execution of consulting services work for the firm. The work environment in our Consulting group is fast-paced, dynamic, and interesting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering (other engineering disciplines may be considered).
  • 10 or more years of experience in the power industry, including one or more of the following: Design of utility-scale solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage projects; Independent engineering and due diligence services for power projects; Power project development; Solar, wind, and/or battery energy storage construction management.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Experience writing technical reports and proposals.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work with and guide others.
  • Project planning and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline or business (e.g., MBA).
  • Experience in project finance or financial modeling of power projects.
  • Experience with owner’s engineering activities during power project execution.
  • Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Work on project teams that provide a wide variety of services, such as technical consulting and advisory services to power project developers to support new utility-scale solar, wind, gas, battery energy storage, and other projects.
  • Provide independent engineering and due diligence services for lenders and investors to evaluate the financing of new power and infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct technical, economic, and market studies for grid operators, utilities, and research agencies.
  • Perform planning studies and business case development for utilities, independent power producers, and government agencies.
  • Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
