Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Pure Storage•Santa Clara, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Join Everpure’s Datastore team to design, develop, and validate embedded firmware for DirectFlash™ modules. The role works across firmware and hardware boundaries to build reliable, high-performance storage solutions, while developing virtual platforms and tools that accelerate development, debugging, and validation. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional engineering teams to solve system-level problems and deliver products to market. The role focuses on creating high-fidelity virtual platforms that abstract hardware behaviors and accelerate SSD firmware development. This includes simulation environments and hardware models for controller logic, PCIe and NVMe interfaces, and NAND media, as well as instrumentation, CI/CD integration, and pre-silicon validation with ASIC vendors.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience building and scaling complex embedded, firmware, or hardware-software systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C/C++, including object-oriented design and C++11 or later.
  • Strong Python skills for firmware and modeling development.
  • Deep understanding of firmware-hardware interaction and ability to translate schematics and data sheets into abstract software models.
  • Solid understanding of Linux, including kernels and bootloaders, and ability to root-cause issues across hardware and firmware boundaries.
  • Strong knowledge of high-performance storage protocols such as PCIe and NVMe.
  • Experience with embedded software development, RTOS, SoCs, and hardware bring-up.
  • Good verbal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work onsite in an open-office, team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain firmware simulation environments, such as QEMU, to support shift-left testing, reduce reliance on physical hardware, and accelerate time-to-market.
  • Create accurate, high-fidelity hardware models that abstract controller logic, PCIe and NVMe communication interfaces, and NAND media behaviors within DirectFlash™ SSD modules.
  • Design and implement instrumentation tools to profile performance and analyze failures in simulated environments.
  • Automate CI/CD pipelines to integrate simulation and virtual platforms into firmware release and validation processes.
  • Partner with ASIC vendors to validate firmware behavior against RTL and digital logic designs before physical silicon is available.
  • Develop, test, and validate embedded firmware for DirectFlash™ modules.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve complex system-level issues.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off
  • Wellness resources
  • Company-sponsored team events
