About The Position

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer on Varda’s Flight Software team determines how spacecraft behave and operate in orbit and develops reliable software to enable those operations. The role covers all phases of development, from requirements capture through testing and flight operational support. The engineer develops firmware for spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules; owns software design, testing, and integration; and builds reliable software for embedded processors.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
At least 5 years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
Experience developing and testing real-time embedded hardware/software systems.
Experience developing in C++ and a strong understanding of language concepts.
Must qualify as a U.S. person permitted to access export-controlled technology without an export license.

Nice To Haves

Experience with safety-critical software, especially in aerospace applications.
Experience with additional programming languages such as Python or Rust.
Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures, and computer networking.

Responsibilities

Develop reliable firmware that controls spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations throughout the mission.
Own software development activities, including design, testing, and integration.
Scope projects, capture requirements, and conduct initial design trade studies for open-ended problems.
Write structured bare-metal, RTOS-based, or Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++.
Build highly reliable and available software systems.
Ensure system quality and performance through software testing, verification, and validation (V&V).
