This role performs duties within the Rockford Materials and Process Engineering Group – serving as a specialist in the failure analysis of electronic assemblies and the design of electronic components and assemblies. The engineer will work cooperatively as a team member in a group of engineers of varying experience levels to solve problems and drive continuous improvement. The engineer will learn Collins products and processes as well as our operating system.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Bachelors degree in Materials Engineering, Electrical engineering, or a related field
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with metallic materials
  • Experience in materials laboratory analysis of electronic components including scanning electron microscopy and other laboratory analysis tools and techniques.
  • Experience in the manufacturing of EEE components and assemblies and in troubleshooting the physical and chemical processes involved in their manufacture.
  • Provides technical leadership and assists in the training and mentoring of M&PE staff, when required, to help diagnose and solve problems and enhance their capabilities.
  • Candidate must be able to work well as a member of a team as well as their own.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties within the Rockford Materials and Process Engineering Group – serving as a specialist in the failure analysis of electronic assemblies and the design of electronic components and assemblies.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member in a group of engineers of varying experience levels to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform material analyses that include failure analysis of individual components and mechanical or electrical subsystems.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and approval of EEE components, electronic assemblies, and electronics packaging designs.
  • Be involved in the generation and revision of specifications controlling manufacturing processes.
  • Consult with Engineering Design, Procurement and Quality operations as needed.
  • As part of the failure analysis process, work with plant sites and/or sub-tier suppliers to troubleshoot fabrication, assembly, and processing issues.
  • As part of the design process, consult with other SME’s in the field of electronics packaging design to develop robust electronic controller designs.
  • Design, perform and supervise material testing and verification testing within the lab.
  • Review and provide technical resolution for requests from the supply chain for mature products and processes.
  • Creates and implements common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
