About The Position

Acts as lead technician performing professional level technical work and leads other technicians performing the installation, operation, repair, programming, overhaul and maintenance of a wide variety of electronic equipment for communications, traffic signal control, flood control, water pumping stations or related electrical equipment to ensure efficient operation for the City of Dallas. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Senior Electronic Technician acts at a lead level delivering technical work and guides other technicians performing the installation, operation, repair, programming, overhaul and maintenance of a wide variety of electronic equipment for communications, traffic signal control, flood control, water pumping stations or related electrical equipment to ensure efficient operation. for the City of Dallas properties and industrial facilities in accordance with federal, state, and city codes and in compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) adopted by TDLR.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience performing electronics repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial equipment and components in a municipal environment.
  • Must have a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.
  • Some divisions may require a Commercial Driver's License with good driving record.
  • Must be able to assist with the installation of electrical work under the supervision of a master, senior, journeyman electrician, or residential wireman.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with equipment such as Flow Meters, Online Water Quality Instrumentation, Switches, Programmable Logic Controllers and Components, Actuators, and Gas Detection Equipment is preferrable.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, coordinates and assists junior electronic technicians in preventive and repair maintenance, installation and modification of electronic equipment to ensure systems services are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Trains, evaluates, and reviews assignments of electronic technicians on troubleshooting techniques, operating and repairing new equipment and major installation projects to ensure electronic work is completed correctly.
  • Evaluates performance and reliability of electronic equipment by applying electronic theory, principles of electronic circuitry, testing procedures, and related knowledge to install, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify tools, circuits or other hardware; meets with customers to identify nature of equipment problems and coordinates customer service requests for installation, repair, replacement, and/or removal of electronic supplies.
  • Designs, oversees, and assists in the construction and fabrication programs electronic chips and produces diagrams to change equipment processes for use in process connections and controls.
  • Tests electronic components, circuits, and faulty equipment, and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units to diagnose causes of malfunction; implements various testing methods to evaluate soundness of all pumps, motors, and related equipment; performs alignment activities, general maintenance, and effective technical work to correct deficiencies or issues.
  • Drafts operating documentation and oversees the accuracy of reporting; uses various systems to schedule and monitor completion of daily work, generates and disseminates maintenance requests, and completes shop logs; approves timesheets ensuring all technical work is completed effectively.
  • Operates city-owned vehicles and other equipment to facilitate repairs, maintenance, and inspection services; loads tools and materials onto vehicles to ensure material is available for installs or repairs.
  • Logs and tracks inventory, orders necessary equipment; ensures supplies are available to successfully complete assignments; communicates with vendors to obtain documentation, technical data, or other relevant information.
  • Performs other work as needed or assigned.
