A day in your role You arrive to a clean handoff, open the CMMS, and map out your plan: a PLC input fault on Line 2, a scheduled vibration check on a gearbox, and an instrumentation calibration on a flow transmitter. You lock out equipment, trace wiring on updated schematics and P&IDs, swap a faulty sensor, validate the loop, and document as-found/as-left results. Mid-shift, you perform infrared and ultrasound inspections that flag a bearing trending hot—so you generate a corrective work order to prevent downtime. Before wrap-up, you lead a brief huddle with production and EHS to plan a safe startup and mentor a teammate through a drive parameter check. What you’ll own Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to restore safe, reliable operation. Perform instrumentation and controls work: install, configure, calibrate, and loop-check sensors, transmitters, analyzers, valves, and related devices. Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and variable frequency drives at the I/O and device level using schematics, ladder logic, and diagnostic tools; collaborate with controls specialists when needed. Execute preventive and predictive maintenance (vibration, infrared, oil analysis, ultrasound) and convert findings into prioritized work orders. Lead root cause analysis on chronic failures and implement reliability improvements such as design updates, condition monitoring routes, and spare-parts strategies. Plan and sequence work, coordinate with operations for equipment access, and ensure safe startup/shutdown practices. Complete calibrations and maintain precise records in the CMMS, including as-found/as-left documentation and asset history updates. Identify critical spares and advise on MRO inventory, vendor selection, and service agreements. Read, interpret, and revise electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and P&IDs; recommend design-for-maintenance enhancements. Champion safety (e.g., lockout/tagout) and compliance in partnership with Production, Engineering, Quality, and EHS. Coach peers, share best practices, and occasionally lead contractors or small projects.
