Senior Electrical Test Engineer

Endurance Energy•Seattle, WA
•$200,000 - $250,000•Onsite

About The Position

As a Senior Electrical Test Engineer at Endurance, you will own the test systems for subsea electronics, including racks, fixtures, interface harnesses, automation software, and procedures used to develop, qualify, and accept subsea electrical systems. This is a design-ownership role working with subsystem design engineers to review interface control documents, requirements, and designs and determine how to validate systems across environmental conditions such as temperature, extreme pressure, and accelerated stress testing. Because deployed hardware cannot be serviced, the tests you design and execute are critical to identifying and resolving problems before deployment. Your test strategy and rigor will directly affect the reliability of Endurance’s systems on the seafloor. The role includes designing, building, bringing up, documenting, and maintaining test systems; creating automated test software; and planning and conducting development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns. You will troubleshoot failures to the component level, distinguish test-system faults from unit-under-test faults, and drive root cause and corrective action. You will also scale test capability from development units to production acceptance testing and help establish company test standards, lab infrastructure, and supplier relationships. The position is based onsite in Seattle, with travel to deployment sites as required. The work takes place in a fast-paced, prototype-driven environment and may involve extended hours during critical test campaigns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related STEM discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in hardware or electronics test engineering, instrumentation, or data-acquisition system design for complex hardware.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and bringing up electronics test systems, including racks, fixtures, interface harnesses, data-acquisition systems, power supplies, and electronic loads.
  • Fluency with electrical laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, and source measure units.
  • Working knowledge of CAN, RS-422/485, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and analog signal conditioning and conversion.
  • Ability to read schematics and debug electronics at the board and component level.
  • Experience writing test plans, procedures, and reports, and defining pass/fail criteria with design engineers.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technicians.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, prototype-driven environment where designs evolve rapidly, including extended hours during critical test campaigns.
  • Ability to work onsite in Seattle and travel to deployment sites as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing hardware for subsea, marine, aerospace, or defense systems.
  • Experience with environmental qualification testing, including pressure or hyperbaric, thermal, vibration, and shock testing.
  • Experience with high-voltage and high-power electronics testing, including safety interlocks, hipot, and insulation resistance.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and simulation of subsystem interfaces.
  • Experience with PLCs or industrial control hardware for test-cell automation and safety.
  • Understanding of metrology, measurement uncertainty, and calibration practice.

Responsibilities

  • Own subsea-electronics hardware test systems end to end, including requirements, architecture, design, build, bring-up, documentation, and upkeep.
  • Work with each subsystem's electrical responsible engineer from the start of development, derive test requirements from design and interface documents, and provide design-for-test feedback.
  • Design and build test racks, unit-under-test fixtures, and interface and breakout harnesses connecting units under test to power, loads, instrumentation, and data acquisition, including through pressure-vessel bulkheads and penetrators.
  • Write automated test software for instrument control, data acquisition, sequencing, limit checking, and report generation.
  • Plan and run development, qualification, and acceptance test campaigns, including functional and power tests, hipot and insulation-resistance tests, thermal testing, and pressure testing in hyperbaric chambers.
  • Write test plans and procedures, establish pass/fail criteria with the responsible engineer, execute tests, and author test reports.
  • Troubleshoot failures to the component level, distinguish test-system faults from unit-under-test faults, and drive root-cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Build and improve test capability to scale from one-off development units to production acceptance testing, improving coverage, cycle time, and operator usability.
  • Help define Endurance's test standards, lab infrastructure, and test-equipment supplier base.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and equity for full-time employees; equity is granted to every full-time employee as a meaningful piece of ownership.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Flexible PTO, including 12 paid company holidays.
  • Travel to deployment sites along oceanic ridges, including locations such as the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores.
  • Participation in sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions.
  • Company-sponsored recreational dive certification.
  • Access to the company boat.
  • Free meals and snacks.
