About The Position

Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions division is currently seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join our team in Richmond, VA. Relocation benefits available within the US. This position is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining robust testing processes, mentoring electrical test employees and leading the design, development, delivery, validation, support and troubleshooting of manual and automated production test equipment and programs. The expected annual salary range for this role is $86,000 - $126,000 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in electrical design, test or test automation function.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to get results and drive change through others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of computer systems including Microsoft office and assigned technical software.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to effectively present results and recommendations to senior-level executive team.
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings including electrical drawings, one line diagrams, power flow diagrams, mechanical blueprints and other electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to implement and support custom test system software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership or mentoring role in electrical design, test, or test automation.
  • Experience in power systems, magnetics, and designing automated test systems for electrical products.
  • Proficiency with test system software, including National Instruments TestStand, Python, SQL Server, and GitHub.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as GPIB, Modbus RTU/TCP, and Rest API.
  • Technical project and program management experience.
  • Ability to develop test procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and support electrical test employees in advancing expertise in safe and effective testing practices, efficient troubleshooting, and electrical/electronics acumen.
  • Oversee the planning, specification, development, delivery, validation, and support of automated, semi-automated, and manual test systems, consisting of power sources, loads, instruments, software, and network/serial communication.
  • Ensure compliance of test systems with electrical safe work practices, hazard identification/remediation, and OSHA requirements in support of zero incident safety culture.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and provide input into the remediation process, ensuring equipment functionality meets required specifications.
  • Provide guidelines for the design, selection, support, service, and troubleshooting of test and electrical equipment, testing procedures, test data collection, and best practices to improve quality, safety, and throughput of the test process.
  • Interpret external industry electrical standards (UL, ETL, IPC, NFPA) and assure alignment with internal safety, test and quality standards, product specifications, and procedures.
  • Coordinate preparation, communication, execution, and follow-up of customer witness test events.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective action planning of test system and test process failures.
  • Analyze, interpret, and effectively present test/quality/process data to senior leadership.
  • Ensure test procedure alignment with the output of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Support financial performance and key operational performance indicators (safety, quality, delivery, cost, inventory).
  • Promote the Eaton Continuous Improvement Framework and other methods to create a lean culture and increase operational performance.
  • Assist Quality and Engineering teams in internal and customer return product failure analysis.
  • Support quality management system improvement activities, including Eaton QMS implementation, regular ISO 9001 internal/external audits, and related activities.
  • Lead Electrical Safety implementations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
