About The Position

Bascom Hunter is seeking a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to lead the definition, integration, and verification of aerospace electrical systems for defense applications. Products include environmental control systems (ECS), motor drives, electronic control units, power distribution, and electrical interconnects. You will own electrical system architecture, requirements allocation, interface control, and verification strategy from concept through qualification and production. Working with hardware, FPGA, software, mechanical, test, and manufacturing engineers, you will translate customer needs into coordinated subsystem requirements and lead hands-on integration to demonstrate system performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 3+ years of relevant electrical systems engineering, subsystem development, or system integration.
• Experience contributing to electrical architecture, requirements development, interface definition, or verification for integrated electrical or electromechanical products.
• Experience developing technical documentation such as electrical specifications, interface definitions, block diagrams, wiring schematics, and verification records.
• Ability to plan and execute integration tests, interpret electrical measurements, and troubleshoot system interfaces using laboratory equipment.
• Working knowledge of electrical system fundamentals, with experience in areas such as power distribution, protection, grounding, shielding, or integration of controls and electromechanical equipment.
• Ability to lead technical coordination across disciplines, explain engineering tradeoffs, and drive requirements and integration issues to closure.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in aerospace, defense, or another high-reliability industry.
• Experience with 28 VDC or 270 VDC aircraft power, power conversion, motor drives, or power distribution and protection.
• Experience with FPGA- or microcontroller-based control systems and interfaces such as RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, SPI, or I2C.
• Experience with requirements management tools, configuration-controlled verification matrices, or system modeling and analysis using MATLAB or Simulink.
• Experience supporting MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, or DO-160 verification and environmental qualification testing.
• Experience with aircraft wiring and harness design, AS50881, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and SolidWorks Electrical.
• Ability to review electronic schematics and component-level analyses; familiarity with Altium Designer or comparable tools.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, LabVIEW, automated data acquisition, or system acceptance testing.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary integration efforts, mentoring engineers, or conducting customer technical reviews.

Responsibilities

• Own assigned electrical system deliverables and technical decisions; identify cross-subsystem risks and drive resolution with the responsible engineering teams.
• Coordinate electrical, mechanical, hardware, FPGA, and software interfaces; resolve conflicting requirements and integration dependencies.
• Develop engineering task estimates, track technical progress, and communicate impacts to program cost and schedule.
• Conduct trade studies addressing performance, size, weight, power, cost, reliability, and component availability.
• Provide technical direction to suppliers and manufacturing partners, and mentor less experienced engineers through design reviews and troubleshooting.
• Lead electrical content for internal and customer preliminary design, critical design, and test readiness reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR).
• Define system boundaries, functional architectures, and the allocation of functions among control electronics, motor drives, power distribution, sensors, and actuators.
• Develop electrical block diagrams and interconnection schematics; review subsystem designs for compatibility with system requirements and interfaces.
• Collaborate with FPGA and software engineers to develop operating modes, startup and shutdown sequences, built-in test, fault reporting, and degraded operation strategies.
• Define and own electrical architectures for 28 VDC and 270 VDC aircraft power, including distribution, conversion, load interfaces, and protection coordination.
• Translate customer and system requirements into measurable subsystem requirements; maintain traceability, verification methods, and technical compliance status.
• Develop and maintain interface control documents (ICDs) defining power characteristics, signal levels, pin assignments, communications, timing, and fault behavior.
• Develop electrical load and power budgets, voltage-drop and margin analyses, and assessments of inrush, transients, power interruptions, and operating limits.
• Define electrical wiring interconnection system (EWIS) architecture, including harness topology, wire sizing, connector selection, signal segregation, and shielding; review drawings with harness designers.
• Allocate electrical spacing, insulation, derating, and thermal requirements across subsystems, accounting for voltage, temperature, and altitude.
• Apply program-specific wiring and workmanship requirements, including AS50881 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 where applicable.
• Own the system grounding, bonding, shielding, and EMI/EMC strategy; coordinate filtering and protection requirements across electronics, harnesses, and enclosures.
• Develop integration and verification plans, compliance matrices, test configurations, representative loads, and pass/fail criteria; coordinate subsystem DVT with system verification.
• Contribute electrical inputs to failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA/FMECA), assess fault propagation across subsystem boundaries, and track mitigation actions.
• Lead hands-on system integration and troubleshooting; isolate power, signal, communications, timing, and control issues across hardware and software interfaces.
• Prepare and maintain electrical architecture descriptions, subsystem specifications, ICDs, interconnection drawings, analyses, and verification records.
• Plan and document compliance with applicable customer requirements and aerospace standards, including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, and relevant DO-160 sections.
• Present design rationale, analysis, test evidence, and open risks at formal reviews; drive assigned actions to closure.
• Manage electrical requirements and interface baselines; assess engineering changes for impacts to connected equipment, performance, compliance, and test coverage.
• Plan integration sequences and readiness criteria for prototype and production configurations; coordinate equipment, instrumentation, and cross-functional support.
• Define system acceptance requirements and support acceptance test procedures (ATP), ensuring appropriate coverage and repeatable pass/fail criteria.
• Coordinate electrical inputs to environmental and EMI/EMC qualification; resolve anomalies and close verification evidence against requirements.
• Lead cross-functional root-cause investigations of integration, manufacturing, and field issues; assess system impacts and verify corrective actions.
