About The Position

EXP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a dynamic team of electrical engineers and designers for Science, Technology, and Healthcare MEP projects in the San Diego, California office. This role involves leading and mentoring design staff, performing quality control, representing EXP in project meetings, solving complex problems within time and budget constraints, and developing electrical work plans. The engineer will also educate clients on code requirements, prepare studies and reports, evaluate Value Engineering items, and lead the implementation of Basis of Design narratives. A high level of knowledge in lighting, normal and emergency power, and fire alarm systems is expected. The position also requires contributing positively to the company and local office culture.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in related design in one of the following: Healthcare, Life Sciences, Research and Development, and other facilities systems and building projects.
  • Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, or BS Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree)
  • Revit MEP proficient
  • Ability to travel locally.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in/with the CEC/NEC, NFPA Life Safety Code, HCAI, and DSA requirements.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the state of California preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead and mentor design level staff in both technical and non-technical skills.
  • Effectively QC own work and work of other staff (IE: drawings, RFIs and submittals).
  • Perform at a ‘responsible charge’ level meeting EXP’s design and quality levels.
  • Independently represent EXP in project meetings / site visits; properly document results as required.
  • Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems independently.
  • Successfully solve complex problems within time & budget.
  • Develop, monitor, and successfully execute electrical work plans to meet schedule and budget.
  • Demonstrate ability to educate clients on code requirements during meetings, design charettes, etc.
  • Independently prepare studies and reports for electrical systems.
  • Evaluate Value Engineering items with respect to EXP’s level of risk.
  • Lead the implementation of Basis of Design narratives into DD and CD drawings.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge in lighting, normal and emergency power, and fire alarm systems.
  • Positively contribute to EXP and local office culture.
