Sr Electrical Engineer - Lunar Permanence

BLUE ORIGIN•Reston, WA
•$144,179 - $221,522

About The Position

Blue Origin’s Lunar RF Systems group is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design mixed-signal electronics for space-rated communications products. The role works with RF hardware, antenna, DSP, FPGA, and software engineers and interfaces with mechanical design, test, systems, integration, and software disciplines throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through flight-ready hardware. The position supports Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products for transporting crew and cargo to the lunar surface. The engineer will develop analog, digital, and power circuits for RF systems such as software-defined radios, solid-state power amplifiers, and low-noise amplifiers. The role owns product development through manufacturing, testing, and flight readiness, including design and checkout of high-reliability PCBs, power-management solutions, circuit analyses, manufacturing documentation, test planning and execution, and coordination with cross-functional teams and vendors. Blue Origin seeks someone with technical expertise, leadership skills, commitment to quality, and passion for its mission and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 8 years of experience, or a master’s degree and at least 6 years of experience.
  • Experience developing high-speed mixed-signal circuits, including part selection, analysis, simulation, laboratory testing, and troubleshooting; aerospace experience is preferred.
  • Experience with circuit design, analysis, and PCB layout for high-speed ADCs, DACs, PLLs, DDRs, NAND/NOR flash memory, and FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of signal and power integrity, grounding topologies, and PCB layout principles and best practices for high-speed digital applications.
  • Experience with worst-case analysis, circuit finite element analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience with signal- and power-integrity simulation and analysis tools such as HyperLynx or Ansys SIWave.
  • Experience developing and testing complex electronic systems combining hardware, firmware, and software.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science degree or equivalent experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience developing and implementing RF circuits for space-rated communications products.
  • Familiarity with EEE-INST-002 parts classification, radiation-hardness-assured component selection, and radiation-mitigation strategies.
  • Experience leading multifunctional teams in up-screening and qualifying automotive-grade parts for space environments.
  • Proficiency with scripting and programming, analysis, or modeling tools such as Python, MATLAB, Simulink, and SPICE or similar.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) acceptance-testing experience.
  • Extensive experience in prototype development, debugging, and laboratory testing; RF hardware testing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout for high-density, complex PCBs using Altium Designer.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement analog, digital, and power circuits for RF systems products, including software-defined radios, solid-state power amplifiers, and low-noise amplifiers.
  • Own products through their lifecycle from concept and design through manufacturing, test, and flight readiness, ensuring quality and performance.
  • Design, manufacture, and check out custom high-reliability PCBs for RF Systems applications.
  • Develop power-management solutions, such as DC/DC converters, for high-performance, compact, or harsh environments.
  • Perform parts-stress and worst-case circuit analyses to ensure circuit robustness under extreme conditions.
  • Create and review manufacturing documents, including schematics, layouts, and bills of materials.
  • Develop test plans and procedures covering functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Execute laboratory test procedures to verify board requirements and perform root-cause analysis of discrepancies.
  • Coordinate across disciplines, including thermal and mechanical analyses and radiation testing.
  • Work with Technical Program Management on parts selection and procurement, vendor selection, and schedule updates.
