About The Position

Blue Origin is hiring a Stress Analyst III for its Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon lunar landers and related products. The role supports the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program and involves working directly with NASA and National Team Partners to develop lunar transportation infrastructure for crew and cargo. The position reports to the Design Section within the Lunar Transportation business unit. The engineer will analyze spacecraft structures and support delivery of safe, reliable, installation-ready hardware that meets requirements within cost and schedule constraints. The role calls for technical expertise, leadership, a commitment to quality, and passion for Blue Origin’s mission and vision. The successful candidate will work with a growing team of design engineers and contribute structural analysis from concept through drawing release and hardware creation. The work includes primary and secondary spacecraft structures, structural loads and dynamics integration, finite element model development and validation, strength assessments, and test and verification planning and reporting.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience.
  • Solid foundation in structural static and dynamic fundamentals.
  • Passion for spacecraft structural and environmental loads development and validation.
  • Ability to solve varied static and dynamic structural problems using physics-based analytical methods, including hand calculations, in-house tools, and third-party commercial analytical tools.
  • Experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, or automotive applications in one or more of these areas: external loads, vibro-acoustic analysis, or thermal loads.
  • Experience analyzing with Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, or Optistruct.

Nice To Haves

  • Vehicle load path definition and strength analysis experience.
  • Analysis experience with metallic and/or composite structures, such as skin-stringer structures, fittings, or sandwich panels.
  • Composite design and analysis skills with thermoset, thermoplastic, metal matrix, or ceramic matrix composites.
  • Experience with manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization, and allowables development.
  • Experience testing materials, joints, components, and vehicles.
  • Structural optimization experience using standard industry codes such as Optistruct, HyperSizer, Nastran Sol 200, Abaqus, or Adams.
  • Experience with ProEngineer Wildfire 4, Creo Parametric, or later versions.
  • Human spaceflight experience.
  • Experience with composites.
