About The Position

AtkinsRéalis's Minerals and Metals team in Canada is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Lead Electrical Engineer to join their Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team. This role will support the M&M business in Montreal, Toronto, or Quebec City, with potential for client site work, project responsibilities, and relocation opportunities. The Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for all Electrical activities during the design of mineral processing plants across all project phases, with experience in aluminum projects being an asset. The team works on large-scale projects supporting mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, and mine closure, utilizing global expertise for projects of any size, scope, or complexity. They collaborate with teams worldwide, including Canada, Brazil, and India, to deliver value and innovation.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada / Quebec
  • Relevant experience in mining and mineral processing facilities, including the design and integration of E-Houses, medium- and low-voltage (MV/LV) switchgear, and Motor Control Centers (MCCs).
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in power system design is required, covering medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, protection and control schemes, grounding systems, and arc flash mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools such as ETAP, SKM, and AutoCAD Electrical is essential.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage electrical systems, substation equipment (apparatus, protection and control) as well as distribution.
  • Strong understanding of applicable standards and codes, including the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA and IEEE standards, as well as mining-specific safety and electrical regulations.
  • Ability to apply these standards effectively in hazardous or high-load operating conditions.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination efforts among electrical, mechanical, and automation teams.
  • Capability of producing detailed and complete design packages, including single-line diagrams, cable schedules, load lists, and equipment specifications.
  • High level of interpersonal communication skills, including a good command of the English language, written and oral.
  • Proficiency in a language other than French, namely English, as the work to be produced is intended for audiences located elsewhere in Canada, internationally, or in another region of the world.

  • Experience in aluminum projects will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead role for the electrical engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion.
  • Provide electrical systems design technical leadership and project management for design mandates throughout the project lifecycle including construction phase.
  • Manage electrical staff resources assigned to projects, mentor continuous development and participate in opportunities to recruit new team members.
  • Lead and actively participate in, and document, meetings with clients, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Review tender submissions and quotations from contractors, as required.
  • Capability to prepare design briefs, schematics, project documents and perform all required engineering calculations.
  • Providing technical guidance and quality assurance to electrical staff to ensure the technical adequacy of electrical engineering project work.
