Senior Electrical Engineer (Power Delivery)

Endurance Energy•Seattle, WA
•$200,000 - $250,000•Onsite

About The Position

Endurance is developing modular subsea geothermal power plants. The Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the company’s principal technical expert on power systems and grid interconnection, owning the engineering needed to deliver electricity from subsea plants to the grid. The role spans feasibility, interconnection strategy, system studies, protection, equipment specification, installation, commissioning, and energization. The engineer will bring in and manage EPC contractors on active projects while retaining the technical expertise to review their work and perform engineering directly when needed. The role supports projects throughout their lifecycle: assessing prospective sites and markets; leading pre-FEED and early FEED power delivery engineering; and selecting and managing EPCs through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and energization. It also advances future grid-tie technologies, including wet-mate connectors, subsea electrical equipment, HVDC, and submarine cables, in collaboration with research organizations, vendors, and internal teams. As Endurance’s primary dedicated power delivery engineer, this person will work closely with electrical, mechanical, drilling, offshore operations, supply chain, regulatory, and business teams, as well as the founding team and engineering leadership. The position requires working onsite in Seattle and frequent travel to supplier, utility, construction, and international project locations.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of hands-on engineering experience in power systems, transmission, or grid interconnection for large-scale generation or transmission projects, from either the utility or plant side.
  • Has taken at least one large project through the interconnection process.
  • Experience performing or directing power system studies and reviewing utility interconnection studies.
  • Experience with protection and control design for substations, generation plants, or transmission infrastructure.
  • Experience writing specifications for high-voltage electrical equipment and evaluating supplier proposals.
  • Field experience with equipment testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for grid-connected projects.
  • Experience managing EPC or installation contractors.
  • Ability to work onsite in Seattle and travel frequently to supplier sites, utilities, construction sites, and international project locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or international equivalent.
  • Experience with offshore wind, submarine cables, subsea power systems, or marine construction.
  • Experience with HVDC transmission systems.
  • Experience interconnecting projects in multiple markets or jurisdictions.
  • Experience with early-stage feasibility work supporting development, regulatory, or siting efforts.
  • Experience maturing new technologies through R&D programs or supplier development.
  • Experience with landfall construction or horizontal directional drilling.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Endurance’s technical lead on power systems, transmission, and grid interconnection.
  • Perform early feasibility analysis for project opportunities, including grid capacity, interconnection pathways, cable routes, and landfall options.
  • Support business development, regulatory, procurement, siting, leasing, and permitting efforts.
  • Lead pre-FEED and early FEED power delivery engineering, including transmission architecture, voltage selection, export system design, and AC/DC trade studies.
  • Take projects through utility or transmission-operator interconnection processes, including applications, model submittals, study phases, and interconnection agreements.
  • Scope and review utility interconnection studies, challenge them where appropriate, and run independent studies to anticipate results.
  • Perform or direct plant-side power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, grounding, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonics, and cable ampacity.
  • Develop protection philosophy and design plant and interconnection protection and control systems, including relay selection, settings, and utility coordination.
  • Design or specify control house and E-house infrastructure, including layout, auxiliary power, HVAC, fire protection, SCADA, and communications.
  • Write specifications for high-voltage and interconnection equipment, including subsea export cables, transformers, switchgear, reactive compensation, and converter equipment.
  • Translate grid codes and interconnection requirements into design requirements for the generator team.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements in each operating jurisdiction.
  • Qualify suppliers and support procurement of long-lead electrical equipment.
  • Witness factory acceptance testing and manage shipping, receipt, inspection, and installation of high-voltage equipment and infrastructure.
  • Select and manage EPC and installation contractors through construction and commissioning.
  • Commission and energize Endurance power plants and their grid interconnections.
  • Drive development of next-generation grid-tie technologies with universities, research labs, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Identify technical risks early and drive mitigation before they threaten first power.
  • Help define future hiring needs as the power delivery function grows.
