Senior Electrical Engineer

Safran•City of Rochester, NY
•$90,000 - $130,000

About The Position

Safran Federal Systems is seeking a senior electrical engineer to design, develop, build, and test printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electrical systems for Safran products. The role spans analog, digital, RF, and mixed-signal design and covers the hardware development lifecycle, from concept development, schematic capture, and PCB layout review through hardware integration and system validation. The engineer will contribute technical leadership across projects, lead smaller projects within larger design efforts, and collaborate with software, mechanical, manufacturing, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality products. Safran Federal Systems develops resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (R-PNT) solutions for critical operations, including military and government customers operating in GPS/GNSS-denied environments. The company operates as a proxy-regulated company free of foreign ownership, control, or influence, and is approved to work on classified and unclassified U.S. Government projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with at least 4 years of experience, or a master's degree in one of these fields with at least 2 years of experience.
  • Experience in RF and/or electrical hardware design and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB and board layout.
  • Proficiency with electrical hardware design tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or OrCAD.
  • Understanding of PCB layout best practices, including high-speed design, EMI/EM considerations, thermal management, RF isolation, and manufacturability.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as FCC, EL, CE, and MIL-STD testing.
  • Strong understanding of analog, digital, RF, and/or power-supply circuit design.
  • Ability to work across engineering domains.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage and influence positively; and ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-speed PCB design and signal-integrity analysis.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.
  • Documented active U.S. Government Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, build, and test PCB prototypes; debug and troubleshoot issues; and lead smaller projects within larger design efforts.
  • Design, develop, and test electrical hardware systems and components.
  • Perform detailed circuit design, simulation, and analysis for analog, digital, and/or mixed-signal circuits.
  • Support system-level performance analysis, including impedance matching, isolation, noise figure, and signal-chain integrity.
  • Design, simulate, and validate electrical and RF circuits, including power supplies, filters, amplifiers, and digital interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain electrical component and hardware specifications and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to deliver products on time and to quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects and collaborate on schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Develop and execute test plans and procedures to verify hardware quality and reliability.
  • Create and maintain schematics, layout files, bills of materials, test plans, and other detailed design documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements, including MIL-STD, EMI/EMC, and safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to support materials and component availability.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to transition electrical hardware designs into production.
  • Stay current with advancements in PCB design, materials, and manufacturing processes to improve product quality and efficiency.
