About The Position

Merrick & Company, a mid-sized, multi-discipline, employee-owned consulting engineering firm, is seeking a full-time Lead/Senior Electrical Engineer for its Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing department in Ellicott City, Maryland. This role will serve as the supervisor and electrical technical lead for the Ellicott City office, supporting market sectors including industrial food & beverage, refining, power, and advanced biofuels. Relocation assistance is available.

Requirements

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in power, energy, oil and gas, or other industrial process industries.
  • Experience developing one-line drawings, control schematics and wiring diagrams, electrical equipment specifications, power plans, conduit plans, cable schedules, etc.
  • Working knowledge of technical Codes and Standards: NEC, IEEE, NFPA, IEC, etc.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Excel & Word.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, REVIT, or other design software.
  • Ability to work in the office 3+ days per week.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
  • PE License required.
  • US Citizenship required for client projects.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project discipline lead and provide oversight of 2-4 employees.
  • Develop electrical design documents and drawings.
  • Analyze and approve the work of others, and monitor the work performed by the team.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed design of low voltage power distribution, lighting, grounding, motor control systems, PLC/PAC, HMI’s, process equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Interact with clients, customers, officials, and contractors.
  • Lead project meetings and make presentations.
  • Perform electrical calculations including voltage drop, short circuit, coordination studies, arch flash, relay settings, conduit fill, lighting, and grounding.
  • Develop specifications and datasheets for electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and MCCs.
  • Travel to client project sites to support field walk downs and as-built efforts.
  • Monitor allocated resources to ensure work is within project estimates.
  • Collaborate with Design/Engineering Managers to ensure project schedules are met and complete documents are provided.
