This position is for an experienced Digital Design Engineer who has a strong foundation in Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) design and manufacturing. As a Sr. Electrical Engineer, you will work to completely understand customer requirements, foundational technology, tools, techniques, and the electrical rule implementations which drive the raw board fabrication and assembly supplier capabilities. You will be the technical bridge between Engineering and Manufacturing. Your work will enable a smooth transition from engineering release to and through production. Your early-on engineering engagement will instill an understanding which will ensure that engineering and manufacturing are in sync awarding suppliers whose capabilities, tools, and technology roadmap are aligned with the CCA design goals. You will become an integral part of the design and production process cradle to grave. You should be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of low loss board materials, glass styles, stackup optimizations which support both sequential and single lamination constructions, buried via’s, blind via’s, impedance tuned via’s, and high-volume short-stub backdrill. You should be very familiar with surface finishes, advanced oxide treatments, smooth copper, via aspect ratio trade-offs, and IPC-6012 Class 2 & 3 requirements. You should also be very familiar with printed circuit board fine pitch assembly requirements with respect to component footprint optimization, and solder mask and solder paste trade-offs for high reliability attach. Most the CCAs we design have advanced FPGAs, microprocessors, and DDR memory. You should be experienced with the associated design requirements and successful implementations. This also includes, Flash memory, Ethernet interfaces, USB, SD card interface, RS-232, RS-422, I2C, SPI, UART, audio, video, switching and linear power supplies, GPS, etc. The tools we use include Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics HyperLynx SI/PI, LT Spice, Xilinx Vivado, Matlab, Polar Speedstack + SI9000, etc. You should be able to understand and review the designs including schematic, component selection, layout, fab, assembly, power, test plans/procedures, documentation, design for manufacturing, development of ATE (Automated Test Equipment) and ATP (Automated Test Procedure). Performs complex electrical engineering duties following designated standards and procedures. Works closely with engineering disciplines. Duties require application of engineering principles and techniques. This job requires strong analytical and technical abilities and demands fast, but carefully thought-out results.
