About The Position

Johnson Controls is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Power Electronics team in our R&D - HVAC Engineering department based in New Freedom, PA. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able to relocate. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to: Serve as a technical authority within the Power Electronics organization, leading the design, testing, and sustainment of power electronics products and systems for Johnson Controls’ chiller portfolio Select and apply the most effective engineering techniques, methodologies, and theories to develop robust, high‑performance power electronics solutions Establish and maintain compliance frameworks for electrical and electronic circuitry, ensuring alignment with regulatory and internal standards Translate requirements into execution by defining, interpreting, and delivering designs that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets for variable speed drives Own creation, review, and release of engineering documentation to enable seamless component design, manufacturing, and product lifecycle support Drive system‑level architecture and early design decisions, including evaluating technical tradeoffs, cost impacts, and scalability of proposed enhancements and new implementations Lead feasibility studies and system analyses for new applications and major modifications to existing drive platforms Partner closely with engineers, designers, and technicians, providing technical guidance and driving alignment across cross‑functional teams Plan, prioritize, and manage work activities, defining repeatable processes that improve efficiency and execution consistency Act as the technical escalation point for complex factory and field issues, leading root‑cause analysis and corrective action across the full range of power electronics products

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree on Electrical Engineering with specialization on Power Electronics
  • 5+ years of industry experience in the field of power electronics or electrical engineering
  • Experience with three - phase power
  • Circuit design

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. degree with focus in Power Electronics
  • Strong experience on power electronics controls
  • Strong experience on IGBT based inverters
  • Strong experience on advanced tools such as Matlab/Simulink, OPAL-RT, Saber, HIL
  • HVAC industry experience

Responsibilities
