About The Position

This is an entry-level role for an Electrical Engineer in Rockford, IL, at Collins Aerospace, a leader in technologically advanced solutions for the aerospace and defense industry. RTX, the hiring company, is the world's largest aerospace and defense company, focused on solving complex problems and advancing skills. The role involves supporting issue resolution by reviewing electrical schematics and product manuals, performing schematic design, and ensuring designs meet internal and regulatory standards. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to develop control units and resolve electrical hardware issues stemming from field returns, production, or obsolescence. The position offers the opportunity to learn and apply electrical engineering fundamentals to real-world aerospace challenges, gain hands-on experience with troubleshooting and design tools, and understand cross-functional team collaboration and production environments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) obtained prior to start.
Basic knowledge of electrical components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, integrated circuits).
Hands-on project experience, internships, or co-op roles related to electrical hardware engineering.
Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Nice To Haves

Exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, or firmware concepts and troubleshooting hardware.
Experience with schematic capture or simulation tools (such as Cadence or LTspice).
Understanding of circuit theory and system design principles.
Familiarity with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers).
Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Review and interpret electrical schematics, product manuals, and datasheets to support issue resolution.
Perform schematic design using Concept HDL Design Reviews per department standards.
Utilize department-specific Hardware Specific Processes and Collins Standard Work to ensure designs and associated data meet internal and regulatory standards.
Work with project engineering, box/unit leads, department leadership, peer designers, and other engineering disciplines as needed to develop control units and resolve issues.
Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to electrical hardware stemming from field returns, zero hours returns, production yield issues, etc.
Analyze alternate parts and write justification memos to support Obsolescence and Part Shortage issues to mitigate impact to production.
