About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Electrical and Power Electronics Engineer to join the Advanced Concepts and Technology team in a critical technical role. This position requires deep hands-on expertise in power converter design, development, testing, and application engineering, with ownership across the full lifecycle — from analysis, simulation, build/manufacturing, and validation to support for controls, software development, and real-time modeling. You will lead the design and optimization of advanced inverters, DC/DC converters, resonant converters, and active rectifiers, while also addressing their integration into larger power and energy systems such as grids, microgrids, islanded systems, energy storage, and propulsion platforms. This role is well suited for a creative, self-directed engineer who can solve complex technical challenges independently and help mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in power electronics systems engineering from an accredited university OR MSc. in engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in Power Electronics and 6+ Years’ experience in power electronics/power conversion.
  • 2+ years experience and deep understanding of semiconductor technologies, including IGBT, SiC, GaN, thyristor, and transistor-based devices, and their implementation in high-density and large power converter applications. Candidate can have prior professional career experience or exposure to the technology during advanced degree pursuit. This should include a strong understanding of switching waveforms, loss modeling, and PWM control and overall power electronics design.
  • 2+ years experience in parallel and series implementation of power semiconductors for purposes of higher power and voltage converter design.
  • 3+ years experience in PCB schematic capture and layout, with a focus on minimizing stray inductance and capacitance and optimizing EMI/EMC performance
  • Should also include strong understanding of magnetics designs including common-mode chokes, dv/dt inductors, and output filters.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated expertise in power electronics technologies, including AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC converter design, as well as the control of voltage-source and current-source power converters by showing ability of past existing written published works by the candidate.
  • Must have prior experiences and knowledge of power electronics and power systems modeling and simulations using Matlab/Simulink, PLECS, and other modeling and simulation tools and software platform. Candidate should be able to demonstrate this by showing modeling results of a prior effort.
  • Demonstrated expertise in circuit design for low- and medium-voltage converter applications, including the design, debugging, and testing of gate drivers, controllers, busbar designs, and current sensors. Candidate should be able to demonstrate ability of this knowledge through prior class work or published papers.
  • Strong passion towards engineering excellence w.r.t attention to details, engineering mindset and systems knowledge in power electronics design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with real time hardware in loop simulations is desired.
  • Professional demeanor, unyielding integrity, and demonstrated compliance mindset.
  • Global mindset with ability to work effectively across businesses worldwide; sensitive to cultural differences and able to nurture collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding capability of the business.
  • Leadership to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions.
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Representing the company in forums like standards/policy committees etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers, interns, and other team members in support of technical and professional development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and accessible and approachable.
  • Loyal, committed, energetic, and connected with teams through inclusiveness.
  • Innovative and inventive in developing intellectual properties (IPs)
  • “Lean” mindset in reducing “waste” and increasing work efficiency and effectiveness
  • Willingness to learn, embrace, and utilize AI to enhance engineering and increase productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements for industrial, marine, renewable, and naval power converters and identify gaps between customer needs and current product capabilities.
  • Develop detailed electrical and electronics specifications and lead architecture/trade-off decisions affecting components, layout, and materials.
  • Lead the design and development of high-power converters, including selection of SiC, GaN, IGBT, and SCR devices, magnetics, gate drives, capacitors, and analog circuits.
  • Own projects from concept through validated solution, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, test procedures, and commissioning documentation.
  • Perform power electronics and system modeling/simulation using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, and LTspice to validate topologies and control strategies before prototyping.
  • Analyze grid and microgrid interaction, including grid-tied/islanded stability, harmonics, power quality, and EMI/EMC filter design.
  • Build, test, and troubleshoot prototypes and system mockups, execute validation plans, and characterize electrical/functional performance.
  • Serve as the technical lead / SME for converter projects, lead design reviews, guide PCB, controls, and junior engineers, and partner with project managers to maintain schedule and customer alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, IEEE, NEC, and MIL standards, and support DFMEA, reliability analysis, and product certification efforts.
