Senior Electrical Engineer – Industrial Controls & Panel Design
About The Position
Join Matrix Technologies as a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Industrial Control Panel Design. In this role, you'll design PLC control panels, MCCs, VFD systems, and industrial automation solutions for manufacturing, food & beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical clients. You'll work directly with clients, collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and lead projects from concept through startup. This position offers the opportunity to solve complex industrial automation challenges while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to high-impact projects across a variety of industries. This is a hybrid role based out of our Atlanta office in Peachtree City, GA. The position is salaried and includes eligibility for overtime pay.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE/BSEET) from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs, VFD systems, or automation-related electrical systems.
- Experience developing electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
- Knowledge of NEC and industrial electrical design standards.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel approximately 20-25%, including occasional overnight travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- FE or PE certification.
- UL508A knowledge and experience.
- AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, or similar electrical design software experience.
- Experience with PLC hardware, industrial control networks, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- EPC project experience.
- Experience in food & beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industries.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical control packages based on project requirements and process documentation (P&IDs).
- Develop PLC I/O schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
- Design motor control circuits, MCC interfaces, and VFD systems.
- Develop three-line diagrams, cable schedules, and conduit layouts.
- Apply NEC, NFPA, and UL standards to project designs.
- Prepare project scopes of work, design concepts, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with clients, internal engineering disciplines, and contractors throughout project execution.
- Support installation activities, contractor bid walks, startup activities, and I/O verification.
- Lead portions of projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Promote and uphold Matrix safety standards, project methodologies, and engineering best practices.
