About The Position

Daikin Applied is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer III to research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, and systems related to the production of commercial HVAC products. This role involves supporting technology advancement of magnetically levitated turbomachinery, including Magnetic Bearing System development, Electric drives and control hardware development, Motor Drive system development, and Advanced Compressor drive system development. The engineer will work hands-on with microcontrollers using C/C++ in a development laboratory and with industrial control boxes. Responsibilities also include preparing specifications, test and qualification plans, reviewing test data for power electronic equipment, supporting UL safety certifications, and working directly with subassemblies of electrical equipment supporting controls products. The role also involves designing various electrical components and systems for commercial, industrial, domestic, and internal purposes, as well as designing test control apparatus and equipment, and using computer-assisted engineering and design software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of product development experience in the field of electrical power technologies (Variable frequency drives, electric motors, industrial control cabinets, etc.) and/or electrical control technologies (IM/PM motor controls, magnetic bearing controls, mechanical actuator controls, etc.)
  • Experience using microcontrollers, C/C++, and MATLAB Simulink/Simscape
  • Experience with development of mechatronic systems
  • Experience leading engineering projects or teams (at any scale, during full-time employment)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the HVAC industry
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent) with focus on the areas mentioned above

Responsibilities

  • Support technology advancement of magnetically levitated turbomachinery: Magnetic Bearing System development (Levitation control analysis, system evaluation testing, etc.)
  • Electric drives and control hardware development
  • Motor Drive system development (motor drives, electric motors, etc.)
  • Advanced Compressor drive system development (Integrated motor and magnetic bearing system control etc.)
  • Work hands-on with microcontrollers to make things move using C/C++ in our development laboratory
  • Work hands-on with industrial control boxes and various industrial control components
  • Prepare specifications for power electronic equipment
  • Prepare test and qualification plans for power electronic equipment
  • Review test data from power electronic equipment to evaluate suitability and performance
  • Support activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operation testing conform to UL safety certifications
  • Work directly with the subassemblies of the electrical equipment supporting controls products.
  • Design electrical motors, control motors, electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, domestic and internal purposes
  • Design test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and simulation to perform engineering tasks
