About The Position

The Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong healthcare focus, will apply building electrical engineering principles, superior client service skills, and project management best practices to deliver projects that meet project requirements, exceed client expectations, and meet project financial and other objectives. Working within our thriving buildings practice, you will contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide quality control, workload forecasting, financial performance accountability, and collaboration with other disciplines. You will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of healthcare projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. You will define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams. You will develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations to ensure successful execution. You will work collaboratively with project leaders, architects, design partners, peers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to define project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics, and develop innovative and practical solutions, and meet the project's conditions of satisfaction. You will lead cross-functional teams, facilitating communication and collaboration to achieve project milestones. You will monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to address challenges proactively. You will conduct regular project status meetings and prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders. You will ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, quality standards, and best practices. You will mentor junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery processes. You will engage with external partners, including vendors and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and integration of project design. You will establish strong relationships with healthcare providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design alignment with project objectives. You will lead the electrical design for health and complex, critical non-health facility projects, including power distribution, lighting, backup power (generator/UPS systems), utility coordination, short circuit and coordination studies and coordination with other disciplines such as mechanical, technology and fire alarm. You will conduct site visits and inspections to ensure project requirements are met. You will apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess project variables and develop reliable design solutions independently. You will prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports. You will provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. You will ensure compliance with healthcare design standards and regulations. You will participate in/lead project meetings and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. You will successfully manage projects and tasks of a scope, complexity, and revenue budget appropriate to experience. You will provide oversight for Electrical Engineering staff. You will actively contribute to the overall technical growth of the electrical team. You will meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary, and client service objectives for each project. You will apply strong electrical engineering skills, experience, and knowledge to the design and oversight of the design for building projects. You will manage and plan the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation, drawings, and calculations required for electrical engineering projects. You will act as QC reviewer on projects. You will effectively delegate work to production support staff. You will nurture existing client relationships and proactively pursue opportunities for new business. You will develop project proposals and participate in project pursuits. You will develop and deliver project-related client presentations. You will proactively pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines by attending available in-house and external training. You will maintain awareness of operational, technical, or regulatory changes within Electrical Engineering and AEC overall, disseminate such knowledge to staff and firm, and integrate it into existing processes and standards. You will maintain and update Electrical Engineering specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other technical leaders in Stantec. You will develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, and partner firms in the local and regional A/E industry. You will develop presentation materials and present them to clients and at strategic industry events. You will represent the firm through published articles, public speaking engagements, and attendance at industry and community events, meetings, and conferences.

  • 7+ years of experience in project management and electrical engineering within the health sector, with a proven track record of successful project delivery

  • Experience successfully delivering electrical engineering designs to Architects and Owners in the healthcare and non-healthcare market
  • Understanding and implementation of the principles of project management.
  • Ability to manage clients, projects, fees, scope, and teams to achieve budget, schedule, and deliverable objectives while meeting key stakeholder critical success factors.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including California building codes, OSHPD regulations, IMC, IPC, NFPA, IBC, and ASHRAE, as well as LEED and green building requirements.
  • A commanding knowledge of technical issues supporting delivered design services.
  • Deep technical understanding and working knowledge of electrical building systems
  • Fundamental understanding of OSHPD requirements and California Building Codes, as well as NFPA 72, 99 101,110 and/or FGI Guidelines as they specifically apply to hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and medical office buildings.
  • Ability to apply logic, reasoning, and organizational skills to develop concepts and ideas and evolve them into project deliverables.
  • Familiarity with and ability to produce project-related documents and documentation standards required of a Project leader.
  • Outstanding consulting skills, with the ability to present a credible, engaging image in keeping with Stantec’s high service standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and polished presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines to deliver a coordinated design.
  • Familiarity with and ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects while maintaining the process-driven requirements of the project.

  • Functional knowledge of BIM software Revit
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or demonstrated skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering license is strongly preferred.
  • OSHPD/HCAI experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean Construction and IPD is a plus.
