The Strategic Defense Solution engineering organization is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Cedar Rapids, IA with analog and digital design experience. In addition to being cognizant of an individual circuit card design, the Senior Electrical Engineer will mentor other engineers with various backgrounds in circuit card and firmware design providing guidance and support across program. Products are typically required to comply with various MIL standards including MIL-STD-461 or DO-160. This opportunity is targeted toward engineers who enjoy working in a systems environment as it includes designing multiple electrical elements of a product; interacting with mechanical and software team members; developing PCB and system requirements; and supporting system test teams. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Experience with pre-CAD circuit design, including schematic capture, power, FPGA resource utilization, background knowledge of PWB stacks ups
  • Experience in industry design tools, i.e. Xpedition Enterprise, Cadence Allegro, etc.
  • Experience with mixed signal design.
  • One or more of the following: SoC/FPGAs, A/D Converters, Digital Down Converters, D/A Converters, Digital Waveform Generators, Mixed Signal CCAs, Mixed Signal Modules and Subsystems.

Nice To Haves

  • Active DoD security clearance.
  • Electronics design with recent experience in 3U VPX and/or SOSA hardware.
  • Understanding of backplane topologies, slot and module profiles of 3U VPX card sets.
  • Experience in designing digital and analog products including microprocessor systems, low-power supplies, communication subsystems.
  • Experience with signal integrity and designing for high-speed designs.
  • TEMPEST design experience.
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC standards for military applications.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, design, fabricate, modify, and evaluate electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, ensuing work is completed on time and established quality and budgets are achieved.
  • Prepare engineering drawings or specifications to construct, relocate, or install equipment, facilities, products, or systems.
  • Prepare documentation including confidential descriptions or specifications of proprietary hardware or software, information on product development, introduction schedules, product costs, and performance weaknesses to track progress and analyze performance.
  • Perform engineering work and applied research, development, and design of new products to ensure quality standards and business objectives are met
  • Produce products according to specifications, using the most cost effective and efficient means.
  • Analyze and evaluate new or improved electronic components.
  • Include power generation, transmission and distribution, rotating machinery, illumination, wire communication systems and servomechanisms.
  • Include circuit theory, computer design and development, instrumentation, radio communications, semiconductor devices, solid state devices, and video systems.
