About The Position

Ballard Power Systems is a leading clean-energy company focused on the development and commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell technology. Ballard has a full-time position available for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer at our Burnaby location within the Electrical Design Services team. The Electrical Design Services team is responsible for creating, managing, and revising electrical design documentation and supporting electrical design development in the organization. In addition, the team is responsible for extending the capabilities of the EPLAN suite of applications and AutoCAD used in our product development processes. The successful candidate will work with and provide technical contributions to a team of product development engineers by providing drawing and design data management expertise to a variety of system and/or product related projects. Design projects take place from conceptualization through final production release and the successful candidate will assist in the completion and coordination of work between the various teams and individuals engaged in our product development processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering Design Technology
  • Electrical Engineer 7-10+ years of relevant design experience
  • In depth experience and know-how in project management, commissioning, and design review best practices
  • Proven expertise using EPLAN Electric P8, EPLAN Harness proD, and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Knowledge and application of electrical code and standards
  • Able to work with engineers in coordinating the completion and accuracy of schematics, harness diagrams, specification sheets and project files
  • Strong design skills are key for this position, someone who is keen and willing to learn new technologies are also key attributes for the position
  • Self-starter with good decision-making skills and the ability to take initiative and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  • Excellent oral and written communication and documentation skills
  • Experience working with Engineering Change Orders in a PLM tool to manage documentation

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise using EPLAN ProPanel is an asset
  • EGBC EIT or EGBC P.Eng professional accreditation is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Developing detailed electrical single line diagrams, cable-harness nailboard drawings, hazardous area classifications, electrical equipment layouts, schematics, control panel layouts, cable layouts, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, general plant layouts, electrical block diagrams, wiring schematics, Process Flow Diagrams, and P&IDs using EPLAN Electric P8, EPLAN Harness proD, & AutoCAD Electrical
  • Interfacing with engineering and working with design teams to produce electrical drawing packages to corporate and engineer standards
  • Reading and extracting electrical and control information from P&ID's and mechanical equipment lists and managing electrical design data
  • Supporting continuous improvements to the design workflow and driving improvements in the way we use existing tools and design methodologies
  • Ensuring all documentation is released through the formal Ballard change control process
  • Designing, analyzing, troubleshooting, and directing the activities of new or revised products, equipment, installations, or processes for new and revised builds to meet functional requirements and performance specifications
  • Overseeing the design or developing engineering documents including drawings and plans
