About The Position

IMEG is seeking a Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer in Chicago, IL, to lead commissioning efforts that ensure building systems are designed, installed, and operating in alignment with project requirements and performance goals. This role involves project planning, document review, field verification, testing, and issue resolution, collaborating with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve reliable, high-performing outcomes. The position also supports coordination and documentation across project phases to maintain organized and effective commissioning activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
  • Experience with NETA ATS and interpreting test results
  • Progressive experience in electrical commissioning, building systems, design, or construction administration
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and building performance verification processes
  • Ability to review construction documents, submittments, and related project documentation
  • Ability to perform site observations, testing, and issue tracking with strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate project records
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed

Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning activities for assigned projects from planning through project closeout
  • Develop and maintain commissioning plans, test procedures, and project documentation
  • Review design and construction documents to support system performance and project requirements
  • Coordinate commissioning scope, schedules, and activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams
  • Conduct site observations, equipment inspections, and field verification activities
  • Perform and document functional testing of building systems and track deficiencies through resolution
  • Prepare reports, logs, and related documentation to communicate project status and findings
  • Support issue identification, troubleshooting, and corrective action follow-up to help achieve intended system performance
  • Maintain strong client communication throughout the commissioning process
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, quality, and compliance across commissioning deliverables
  • Manage and lead commissioning activities in accordance with ASHRAE Guideline 0 and Standard 202 requirements, including review of electrical designs, development of pre-functional checklists and functional performance tests, equipment installation review, review of equipment integrity tests performed per NETA acceptance testing standards, execution of functional performance tests, and issue management for power distribution systems, emergency power systems, fire alarm systems, and lighting controls systems.
