Senior Elastic Platform Engineer

Vantor HoldingsWestminster, CO
Hybrid

About The Position

Vantor is seeking a Senior Elastic Platform Engineer to own and evolve its multi-domain Elastic environment, which supports enterprise-scale data, observability, and analytics workloads. This role is not ticket-driven but focuses on scaling, optimizing, and operating Elastic as a shared platform across multiple business domains. The engineer will balance performance, cost, data isolation, and reliability, working at the intersection of DevOps, SRE, and data platform engineering to ensure Elastic is a high-performing, trusted system. The position is based in Westminster, CO, with an on-site requirement of three days per week, and occasional work from the Longmont, CO office. This role requires U.S. Citizenship and an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Secret level.

Requirements

  • 6–10+ years in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering.
  • Deep, hands-on experience operating Elasticsearch at scale.
  • Proven experience supporting multiple teams or business domains on shared infrastructure.
  • Experience with shard sizing and rebalancing tradeoffs.
  • Experience with index lifecycle management (hot/warm/cold tiers).
  • Experience with cross-cluster replication/search.
  • Experience with performance tuning (heap, GC, query optimization).
  • Experience with data modeling and mapping strategy.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes and Helm.
  • Strong experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Experience building and operating systems in AWS (EC2, S3, EKS, IAM, etc.).
  • Systems thinking approach.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance at Secret level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Science or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with monitoring and observability ecosystems (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix).
  • Background in SIEM or security analytics using Elastic.
  • Experience with large-scale data platforms or lakehouse architectures.
  • AWS or cloud certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Evolve Vantor’s multi-tenant, multi-domain Elastic environments in partnership with engineering leads and architects.
  • Make critical decisions on cluster sizing and topology, shard strategy and index design, and cross-cluster search and replication.
  • Optimize Elastic environments for performance, resiliency, and cost at scale.
  • Build and maintain ingestion pipelines using tools like Beats, Logstash, and Kafka.
  • Define and enforce index lifecycle management (ILM) and data retention strategies.
  • Establish and govern mapping and schema.
  • Solve real-world problems such as noisy data, mapping explosions, and high-ingest workloads.
  • Own the 'ilities' of the platform: availability, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot complex cluster issues, including shard imbalance, memory/heap pressure, and query latency.
  • Proactively drive improvements rather than just reacting to incidents.
  • Treat Elastic as infrastructure-as-a-product.
  • Automate deployment and operations using Terraform/Infrastructure-as-Code, Kubernetes (EKS or similar), and Helm.
  • Build repeatable, scalable patterns for onboarding new teams and domains.
  • Partner with DevOps, Data Engineering, and application teams.
  • Help define standards, guardrails, and best practices for platform usage.
  • Act as a technical leader in shaping observability and data platform strategy.
  • Uplift peers and colleagues.
