About The Position

This is a supervisory position performing intermediate level work with the responsibility of overseeing the work and supervision of staff in the Office of Mathematics and Sciences, Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support in the Division of Public Schools. Work is performed under the limited guidance and supervision of the Chief of Standards and Instructional Support-DOE. Position Leads agency or interagency personnel in the design and development of K-12 resources and strategies for implementation of instruction at the state and district levels.

Requirements

  • Four to six years of professional experience working in/with education.
  • Ability to travel a multitude of times during the year.
  • Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in creating and conducting training courses.
  • Experience with public speaking.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with and motivates staff and provides and/or coordinates ongoing training and directs the work of his/her subordinates. In addition, the employee must complete timely performance appraisals, develop timely and accurate work plans, and timely approve monthly timesheets and attendance and leave requests for each position under his/her direct report. The incumbent has the authority to make hiring recommendations as well as disciplinary recommendations.
  • Leads in the development, implementation and support of state curricular initiatives such as the Course Code Directory, Florida’s state academic standards, virtual instructional provider reviews, Florida’s Value-Added Models and instructional materials adoption.
  • Leads the implementation of project or initiatives led by interagency bureaus and teams including, but not limited to, the Division of Early Learning, Bureau of School Improvement, the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services, the Bureau of Student Achievement through Language Acquisition and the Bureau of K-12 Student Assessment.
  • Represents the program office, bureau and department on various internal and external committees, task forces and work groups as required.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations regarding operations and procedures of the office, program plans and implementation activities.
  • Oversees the fidelity and implementation of benchmarks-aligned, high-quality instruction.
  • Ensures office and department compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Assists the chief in bureau planning and management, using principles of quality management, including strategic planning, fostering innovation, providing for professional learning, facilitating and supporting the work of staff members, evaluating effectiveness and pursuing continuous quality improvement.
  • Leads agency and FDOE hosted professional learning for the enhancement of essential skills and content related to the Office of Mathematics and Sciences.
  • Consults with and advises assessment personnel in the development of assessment materials related to K-12 Mathematics, Science or Computer Science.
  • Coordinates and oversees multiple state/federal grant programs as assigned. Works closely with the bureau’s Office of Grants Management and Project Support regarding grant processing, reporting and compliance, financial awards, obligations and expenditures.
  • Ensures the workflow of the Office of Mathematics and Sciences continues even in the absence of the employee.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of Florida State Board of Education Rules related to K-12 Mathematics, Science or Computer Science and any necessary documents.
  • Assist personnel through bill analysis of draft legislation as assigned by the Florida Legislature.
  • Prepares written reports or briefings on educational issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
