About The Position
This is a highly responsible professional and administrative position for planning, organizing, and directing teacher recruitment and recognition programs and initiatives for the Department of Education. Specific responsibilities and duties for the position include: As a supervisor, the incumbent must communicate with, motivate, provide or coordinate training, and direct the work of his/her subordinates. In addition, the employee must complete timely performance appraisals, develop timely and accurate work plans, and timely approve monthly attendance and leave for each position under his/her direct report. Timesheets will be completed in the People First system by the 5th business day of the following month. The incumbent has the authority to make hiring recommendations as well as disciplinary recommendations.
Requirements
- Six years of professional experience in education.
- Ability to prepare reports; to develop, evaluate, and interpret programs, policies and procedures.
- Ability to travel.
- Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities
- Administer and assist in planning of statewide educator recruitment initiatives, including The Great Florida Teach-In, Florida Future Educators of America, and the Purple Star Teacher Leadership Program.
- Administer and supervise the planning of the High Impact Teacher Corps program.
- Administer and supervise the Heroes in the Classroom Bonus Program.
- Administer a national teacher recruitment campaign.
- Administer and coordinate technical assistance to school districts and postsecondary institutions in the area of educator recruitment.
- Administer and provide oversight of the data compilation and reporting for evaluation of recruitment program success.
- Manage, coordinate and plan recognition programs and events, including Teacher of the Year Gala, Teacher of the Year Roundtable, School Related Employee of the Year, Principal and Assistant Principal Awards, and Milken Educator Awards, and coordinate with the Florida Education Foundation to raise funds as needed to support programs.
- Administer, promote and coordinate activities for the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education Program, including speaking/presentation requests for the Teacher of the Year.
- Supervision of professional and support staff in Educator Recruitment/Recognition Unit.
- Represent the Bureau at district/regional/state/national sponsored conferences/meetings/workshops on educator recruitment issues.
- Coordinate and publish the monthly Just for Teachers newsletter.
- Manage the rule development process for statutes and rules assigned to the Recruitment and Recognition Team, from inception through to State Board of Education adoption.
- Manage and, when necessary, collaborate with other Department teams on bill analyses as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Bureau Chief.
