About The Position
We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering
- Valid Professional Engineering Licensure
- 10+ years of relative/progressive drainage/water resources experience for transportation projects
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer, StormCAD, PCSWMM, Pondpack, HydroCAD, HEC-RAS, GIS and Subsurface Utility Design and Analysis (SUDA) software
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
Nice To Haves
- Previous VDOT Drainage design experience and strong knowledge of VDOT standards and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Master's in Water Resources field
Responsibilities
- Collecting and analyzing data for inclusion in Project Plans and reports
- Using computer engineering software to design stormwater management and storm drain systems, as well as soil erosion and sediment control systems
- Conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for Transportation Improvement projects
- Preparing, applying and getting permits from local and state regulatory agencies
- Assisting and preparing project plans using OpenRoads Designer
- Contributing to the preparation and/or modification of scopes, complex engineering reports and calculations for a wide variety of projects
- Preparing and assisting in the preparation of project construction details, quantities, cost estimates and project specifications
- Reviewing construction plans/documents, project quantity estimates, reports and supporting documents, details, and drawings for compliance to project requirements
- Preparing and assisting with the preparation of project schedules
- Collaborating across multiple disciplines, subconsultants, and other professionals to successfully deliver quality projects within budget and schedule
- Overseeing project design activities, supervising production efforts, and mentoring junior level support staff and other designers
- Performing other professional, management, marketing and networking duties as assigned
