About The Position

This position offers the opportunity to work in a project team environment and lead other engineers and designers using knowledge of engineering and design practices. The role involves preparing/reviewing construction sketches and details for overhead and underground network services (4 kV through 34 kV), structural analyses, short circuit and voltage drop calculations, Bill of Material, Cost Estimates, and Traffic control plans and/or permit drawings. The engineer will work on project teams with others involved in the design of new upstream and midstream oil and gas facilities, participate in Process Hazard Analysis and Design Reviews, and work directly with client representatives. Responsibilities include analyzing, designing, or reviewing priority feeds, supporting maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components, planning system modifications, designing and overseeing complex tasks, developing work packages, and providing construction support. Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs is expected. Career development is supported via peer-learning through S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice.” This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office and two days remotely. A generous relocation package is offered depending on location.

Requirements

  • Degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 5 or more years of experience with electric utility distribution or relevant experience to be able to review work by others.
  • Knowledgeable in physical distribution design methods and their application.
  • Knowledgeable in applicable codes, standards, and distribution software programs including AutoCAD, ArcGIS, PoleForeman, etc.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD.
  • Experience with complex overhead and underground distribution projects (120/208V through 34 kV).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to lead a project team.

Nice To Haves

  • PLS CADD experience
  • Professional Engineering Registration or able to obtain a PE within 5 years.
  • Experience in utility distribution inspections and/or construction.
  • Familiarity with various distribution design/analysis software.
  • Familiarity with GIS software.
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
  • Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
