About The Position

Bedford Green House is a new state-of-the-art supportive/affordable housing complex providing homes and services to more than 300 New Yorkers. Phase I is a building designed to LEED Gold Standards and opened in the Bronx in October of 2021, consisting of 116 units. Phase II will consist of 116 units and is scheduled to open in April of 2025. Bedford Green House provide onsite social services including primary care for adults and families and women’s health services, family reunification services, case management services, occupational therapy, and more. Funded in part by the NYC Dept. of Health and Hygiene and Human Resources Administration, Bedford Green House supports and encourages a healthy lifestyle with an abundance of resources for the community at large. Phase I features sustainable landscaped green roof, rooftop greenhouse, aquaponics growing system, horticultural therapy classes with year-round gardening, planned healthy cooking workshops, community playground, and community room with recreational equipment. Phase II will feature access to the above including a library learning center, gym, and a medical clinic.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree with a major in either Social Work or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience working with individuals with substance use and mental health issues.
  • 4 years of experience working directly with families.
  • 4 years of required managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership skills, including outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Understanding of finances, systems and human resources, especially as it impacts programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity for project management.
  • Ability to work well in a highly pressured environment.
  • Ability to interface with clients as well as all levels of staff.
  • Sensitivity to community issues and needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; and knowledge of case management software.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding and directing staff in providing a safe and supportive residence for tenants.
  • Engaging tenants to get needed services and benefits to meet their obligations, stabilize their health, and when possible, encouraging and supporting tenants to find permanent housing when they no longer require supportive services.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of Phase I and Phase II buildings, 24-hour staff, and maintenance staff.
  • Responding to emergencies on a 24/7/365 basis, on-call.
  • Working with Vice President of Program and staff to develop and implement the strategic plan.
  • Ensuring compliance with funding sources including HASA, DOHMH, HRA, HPD and ESSHI.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations and activities with respect to tenants’ services, the physical plant, building safety and security.
  • Providing direct and indirect supervision to all staff as well as management of all human resources issues such as hiring, disciplining, training, and developing staff as needed.
  • Overseeing the business office including rentals and rent collection in conjunction with Property Management.
  • Monitoring unit vacancies within Phase I and Phase II and working with Property Management on filling them in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with the Clinical Directors of Phase I and Phase II to ensure the appropriate level and quality of services are being offered to the tenants.
  • Evaluating programmatic needs and service delivery within the supportive housing programs and developing enhancements and services as they relate to consumers’ recovery and self-sufficiency.
  • Meeting regularly with all tenants to counsel/instruct them on building issues, especially safety matters.
  • Meeting with individual tenants, as needed, to resolve issues and/or conflicts with building staff or services.
  • Managing all aspects of the budget and ensuring that the building is in compliance with city and state regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring timely completion of statistical and reporting requirements.
  • Building and maintaining strong connections with both local and state service providers.
  • Handling community relations activities which includes maintaining a positive relationship with neighboring community organizations and overseeing the creation of partnerships with community-based service providers.
  • Facilitating weekly team meetings with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
