Senior Director, Total Rewards
About The Position
Alterra Mountain Company is hiring a Senior Director of Total Rewards to lead its Total Rewards function and serve as a subject matter expert and operational leader supporting the organization’s long-term growth and success. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role designs and executes compensation, benefits, and wellbeing programs aligned with business objectives and a culture that values performance, care, and sustainability. The position oversees total rewards other than executive compensation, which it supports, and partners with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and cross-functional teams to ensure programs are competitive, compliant, financially responsible, and supportive of team members’ professional and personal wellbeing. The role is based in the Denver area. Alterra’s hybrid workplace policy encourages regular in-person collaboration at its dog-friendly headquarters in Denver’s RiNo Art District for eligible employees. The position is open and still accepting applications. The Denver area base salary range is $175,000–$250,000; actual compensation may vary based on factors including experience, education, training, location, merit, production, responsibilities, and travel. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives and region-specific benefits.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in total rewards or related fields.
- Extensive experience with public company compensation and benefits practices, including equity plan administration and 401(k) management.
- Strong ability to influence, build relationships, and communicate across all levels of an organization.
- Mature, dependable, flexible, and team-oriented approach, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth, or matrixed environment.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification.
- Master’s degree.
Responsibilities
- Enhance and oversee the organization’s total rewards strategy, including compensation, benefits, retirement, mental well-being, and equity programs, in partnership with the Chief People Officer.
- Support executive compensation design and prepare materials for the Compensation Committee.
- Lead the strategy and execution of health, wellness, retirement, and absence-management benefit programs.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of compensation structures, including hourly wages, tipping programs, base salary, short-term incentives, and equity plans.
- Advise senior leaders on job evaluations, retention strategies, salary adjustments, and organizational design.
- Lead the internal Total Rewards Committee in reviewing and approving health, wellness, and retirement strategies as a fiduciary representative.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and consultants to optimize benefits program delivery.
- Oversee benefit program audits, renewals, and open enrollment, including communication and execution.
- Guide execution of the team’s mental well-being mission through accessible resources, ongoing education, and a culture of care and respect.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, and Operations stakeholders on compensation, benefits, and retirement needs.
- Represent the organization at industry events and stay informed about emerging trends and best practices.
- Oversee communication and training programs that educate team members about compensation, equity, and benefits.
- Partner with leadership to build awareness and understanding of total rewards initiatives across the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
