About The Position

Atoms is seeking a Senior Director, Technical Accounting to serve as the company's subject-matter expert on technical accounting. This role will provide proactive guidance on complex transactions, acquisitions, new business initiatives, commercial arrangements, and other non-routine activities. The position involves leading the research, evaluation, and documentation of accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP, including the preparation of technical accounting memoranda. The Senior Director will partner with various departments such as Controllership, Legal, Corporate Development, Strategic Finance, Tax, Treasury, business leaders, and external auditors to assess accounting implications. Additionally, the role requires monitoring emerging accounting guidance, evaluating its impact, and leading the implementation of new accounting standards and policies. A key aspect of this role is translating complex accounting matters into practical recommendations for senior leadership and strengthening technical accounting capabilities across the organization.

Requirements

  • CPA required
  • 12+ years of experience
  • Big 4 experience, with national office experience
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to independently research, evaluate, and resolve complex or judgmental accounting matters
  • Ability to understand the economics of acquisitions, investments, financings, commercial arrangements, and new business initiatives, and to determine the appropriate accounting treatment
  • Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and defensible accounting memoranda and explain complex conclusions to executives, operators, Legal, and external auditors
  • Comfort partnering proactively with Controllership, Finance, Tax, Legal, Corporate Development, and business teams, while maintaining strong technical standards and independence
  • Track record monitoring emerging guidance, establishing company-wide accounting policies, and ensuring consistent implementation across businesses and geographies

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Atoms' subject-matter expert on technical accounting, providing proactive guidance on complex transactions, acquisitions, new business initiatives, commercial arrangements, and other non-routine activities
  • Lead the research, evaluation, and documentation of accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP, including the preparation of clear, concise, and defensible technical accounting memoranda

  • Monitor emerging accounting guidance, evaluate its impact on the company, and lead the implementation of new accounting standards and company-wide accounting policies
