About The Position

The Senior Director of Technical Accounting will be responsible for leading and managing a team of five professional employees that are responsible for the following key accounting positions and management estimates: purchase accounting, Joint venture accounting, derivatives, valuation of and integration of newly acquired companies; pension accounting, restructuring, APP, and Tax/legal restructuring activities. The team is responsible for all elements of such accounting positions, not limited to accounting research, analysis of the data, setting the accounting assumptions and overseeing the external valuation specialist’s work. Additionally, the team is responsible for drafting and supporting half the footnotes in the consolidated financial statements of Coty Inc.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the preparation of the Audit and Finance Committee deck’s accounting section as well as reviewing the other parts of the deck for consistency and clarity.
  • Managing any material new U.S. GAAP standards changes and the related implementations. This requires creating new policies and accounting whitepapers, preparing and presenting trainings, managing the implementation project to ensure the local finance teams provides accurate information for calculation of impact and ensuring appropriate disclosure within our public filings. Additionally, providing relevant updates of the changes to the key stakeholders such as the Divisional Finance teams, Investor Relations, the Tax and FPA teams on potential impacts on their responsibilities.
  • Managing the quarterly and annual impairment process, by coordinating with the divisional FPA and Brand Finance teams on the preparation of the Plan and Strat Plan and then supervising the valuation work of the external valuation specialists.
  • The team has a significant role in supporting the divisional teams in addressing audit requests related to impairments to ensure consistent responses with appropriate support to timely address potential audit concerns.
  • Performing an overall review of the quarterly and annual financial statements. Additionally, the team is responsible for preparing and supporting the reconciliations of the statement of changes in equity and statement of comprehensive income.
  • Providing guidance to the worldwide accounting teams by reviewing new contracts such as sale/terminations of brand licenses or material rebate arrangements and providing accounting guidance.
  • Provide accounting guidance to the corporate legal, M&A, treasury, tax and executive compensation teams related to proposed/actual transactions. Responsible to provide accounting comments on design of unique equity compensation arrangements. Implement new equity compensation plans for the private companies’ subsidiaries including additional valuation and accounting process to address the complexities of valuing private company stock.
  • Supporting the Director of M&A and Integration by providing advice and guidance on evaluating and accounting for new business development opportunities, business integrations and tax planning strategies.
  • Complete technical accounting issue research, provide technical US GAAP accounting guidance to subsidiary and corporate personnel, prepare and review accounting assertion memos for concurrence with external audit firm.
  • Responsible for financial policy administration – establishment, update, and communication of the Corporate Finance section of the Finance manual as well as training of personnel in such policies. Monitor and ensure compliance with established policies.
  • Document and comply with SOX controls supporting quarterly public filings.
  • Participate in special projects sponsored by senior management.
