About The Position

Salesforce is seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to lead Slack’s Application Architecture and Systems organization, responsible for shared technical foundations across web, desktop, and mobile clients. The organization owns shared client infrastructure, frameworks, accessibility, APIs, and components used in Slack’s Electron desktop app and Android and iOS applications. These foundations affect the experience of millions of Slack users, and the role sets standards for client performance, reliability, quality, and feature velocity. The Senior Director will lead a large, multidisciplinary organization of more than 50 people, including managers, and partner closely with Product and Design to establish an ambitious strategy. This is a strategic leadership role focused on setting direction for shared technical foundations and building a culture of engineering excellence, rather than maintaining existing systems. The leader will help evolve how client engineering teams build and ship software in the era of AI coding agents, while aligning priorities and dependencies across Slack and Salesforce.

Requirements

Significant experience leading product infrastructure engineering at a company with a complex, large-scale client application.
Experience in client infrastructure; depth in either web or mobile is acceptable, and experience in both is a plus.
A track record leading large engineering organizations, including managing managers and coaching senior leaders.
Ability to set technical strategy and work with Product and Design to translate it into a roadmap.
Ability to hold teams to high standards for performance, reliability, and quality.
Ability to collaborate across functions without direct authority over all parties.
A related technical degree.

Responsibilities

Lead the Application Architecture and Systems engineering organization across web, desktop, and mobile.
Hire, develop, and retain engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
Define and drive the multi-year technical vision and roadmap for Slack’s client infrastructure.
Partner with Product counterparts to set strategy and make clear tradeoffs.
Establish high standards for performance, reliability, quality, and engineering craft.
Reshape client engineering development and delivery practices to increase speed without sacrificing quality, including through AI coding agents.
Steward shared frameworks, components, design-system foundations, and internal client APIs used by Slack product teams.
Make accessibility a first-class part of how Slack is built.
Collaborate with executive peers in Product, Design, and Engineering across Slack and Salesforce to align priorities and resolve dependencies.
Build a cohesive, high-performing culture across a distributed, hybrid organization.
Assess the organization, set strategy, and improve technical excellence and team performance during the first 60–90 days.
