About The Position

The Senior Director, Reach Operations and Events is a newly created individual-contributor role on College Board’s Engagement and Reach (EaR) team, within Reach. The role will build and initially operate two enterprise-level systems: a standardized marketing lead operations system and a framework for prioritizing, resourcing, and measuring the impact of the organization’s portfolio of more than 300 annual industry events, sponsorships, and third-party engagements. It will also create the documentation and training needed to support adoption and establish marketing as a cross-functional data and process partner. The role works through significant ambiguity, sets direction across State and District Partnerships, Global Programs and External Relations, Higher Education Membership and Access, Program, and other functions, and provides senior leadership with recommendations on field marketing strategy, lead operations, event investment, and measurement standards. The role is expected to design and execute within both systems during the foundational period, refine standards as the function matures, and identify when execution should transfer to future hires or agency partners. It reports to the Executive Director, Reach Operations. This is a remote full-time role. Employees who live near College Board offices may choose to work fully remotely or in a hybrid arrangement, with in-office work Tuesday and Wednesday. Occasional business travel is required, and the role may travel up to 30% of the time for event execution and industry engagement.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of experience across marketing operations, demand generation, or field/event marketing, with demonstrated ownership of enterprise-level systems or frameworks.
  • A proven track record of building processes, systems, or standards where none existed.
  • Deep proficiency with marketing automation platforms such as HubSpot or Marketo and CRM systems such as Salesforce, including lead scoring, routing logic, and attribution modeling.
  • Experience negotiating high-value sponsorships, partnerships, or vendor contracts with enterprise-level financial or reputational stakes.
  • Ability to set strategy and influence senior leaders, including VPs and above, without relying on formal authority over teams.
  • Skill in aligning teams and functions that do not report to the role, using data, credibility, and a clear point of view.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold cross-functional teams accountable to enterprise standards and use data and adoption metrics without formal management responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills, including building reports and dashboards that connect marketing activity to pipeline and revenue outcomes.
  • Ability to anticipate cross-functional impacts of decisions rather than optimize only for one team’s metrics.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent professional experience will be considered in place of a degree.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time for on-site event execution and industry engagement.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods; travel to and navigate event venues and conference environments; stand for extended periods during event execution; and occasionally lift or transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Passion for expanding educational and career opportunities and for mission-driven work.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies, willingness to experiment with and adopt AI-driven solutions, and ability to learn and apply new digital tools independently.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • A learner’s mindset, openness to diverse perspectives and feedback, and commitment to continuous improvement through iterative learning and user input.
  • Drive for impact and excellence, including solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing, and using external benchmarking.
  • A collaborative and empathetic approach, including working across differences, fostering trust, and contributing to shared success.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience establishing a new function or system within a growing organization and navigating the ambiguity of building without a template.
  • Experience working at the intersection of marketing and sales, with a record of improving lead-to-revenue conversion through system design rather than campaign tactics alone.
  • A history of senior leaders proactively seeking the candidate’s point of view on strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the enterprise standard for qualified marketing leads and contacts, including scoring methodology, routing logic, and conversion tracking.
  • Architect an operating system that connects lead capture, scoring, and routing to sales pipeline outcomes across marketing, sales, and partner functions.
  • Test, refine, and improve the lead and contact operations system as volume and complexity grow.
  • Build reporting and analytics infrastructure that provides leadership visibility into lead velocity, conversion, and pipeline health.
  • Define and own the enterprise framework for evaluating, prioritizing, and resourcing the portfolio of more than 300 annual industry events, sponsorships, and third-party engagements.
  • Set standards for event selection, funding, and measurement that other teams and future hires can operate within.
  • Establish an event-investment measurement model, including cost per lead, pipeline contribution, and return on investment.
  • Lead negotiations and structure major sponsorships and speaking opportunities with enterprise-level visibility or investment.
  • Advise the Executive Director and VP of Reach on field marketing strategy, lead operations, event investment, and organization-wide measurement standards, bringing clear recommendations to significant decisions.
  • Align State and District Partnerships, Global Programs and External Relations, Program, and other functions around shared standards for external engagement and pipeline conversion.
  • Build and maintain centralized documentation and structured training on marketing measurement and CRM best practices, and drive adoption across partner divisions.
  • Anticipate the impacts of event and lead strategy decisions on sales forecasting, budget planning, and brand presence.
  • Benchmark lead operations and event portfolio practices against peer nonprofit and enterprise marketing organizations.
  • Direct the build and initial operations of both systems during the foundational period.
  • Identify when execution should transfer to future hires or agency partners, or when the combined role’s scope warrants a different structure.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package.
  • Meaningful career and supportive team.
  • Compensation grounded in qualifications, experience, impact, and market data, with location-based salary adjustments.
  • Transparent conversations about compensation and benefits during the hiring process.
