Senior Director, Portfolio Strategy & Analytics

Riot Platforms, Inc.Denver, CO
$175,000 - $225,000Hybrid

About The Position

As Riot's data center portfolio scales, this role sits at the center of how capital is allocated, risks are managed, and value is created. Serving as a divisional CFO and trusted partner to executive leadership, the Senior Director of Portfolio Strategy & Analytics will own financial planning, drive portfolio-level investment decisions, and shape the narrative delivered to Riot's board, investors, and lenders — all while maintaining the operational clarity needed to align teams across accounting, construction, development, and procurement. We're looking for a commercially sharp, intellectually rigorous leader equally at home in the details of a Procore construction system reconciliation and in presenting capital strategy in the boardroom. While there is a preference for candidates based in Denver, CO, we are open to a hybrid arrangement for the right candidate located elsewhere in the U.S. - with the expectation of regular travel to Denver as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.
  • 12+ years of progressive finance experience with significant FP&A leadership in a capital-intensive environment (data centers, real estate, infrastructure, energy, or industrial operations).
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, capital investment analysis, valuation, and scenario planning.
  • Strong quantitative skills with the ability to organize complex information and present clear, actionable takeaways for executive and board-level audiences.
  • Proven track record presenting to executive leadership, boards of directors, and institutional investors.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and bringing structure to open-ended, fast-moving problems.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or equivalent advanced credential.
  • Experience in data center, colocation, cloud/AI, or hyperscale infrastructure environments.
  • Background in project finance, debt financing, or large-scale capital deployment programs.
  • Deep familiarity with data center operating metrics including NOI, construction deployments, and infrastructure lifecycle economics.
  • Advanced proficiency with construction and financial systems such as Procore and NetSuite preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the annual operating plan, long-range financial strategy, and rolling forecast processes for the data center business.
  • Serve as a senior financial advisor to the executive team, translating business objectives into actionable financial frameworks and capital allocation strategies.
  • Evaluate development opportunities, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives with rigorous financial analysis, scenario modeling, and clear investment recommendations — including analysis tied to new builds, tenant requirements, and design decisions.
  • Research cost drivers, supply chain dynamics, and construction trends relevant to Riot's development model to inform strategic planning and capital positioning.
  • Own end-to-end budgeting, forecasting, and pro forma modeling — integrating revenue, operating expenses, capital expenditures, and cash flow.
  • Track actuals versus plan, prepare variance insights, and partner with accounting and project teams to explain variances and to ensure alignment between critical systems such as Procore (construction) and NetSuite (financial).
  • Lead monthly and quarterly financial reviews with executive leadership, providing forward-looking perspective on risks, opportunities, and performance trends.
  • Prepare monthly updates capturing major portfolio changes — including financial shifts, change orders, and schedule adjustments — and translate them into executive-ready narratives.
  • Own portfolio-level capital forecasts, integrating budget updates, schedule shifts, procurement timing, and cost-to-complete changes in real time.
  • Lead executive portfolio reviews that synthesize capital needs, development risks, and long-term roadmap impacts into clear, decision-ready materials.
  • Partner cross-functionally with construction and scheduling teams to understand field-level updates that affect budgets or timelines, and with procurement to surface long-lead equipment risks — including switchgear, cooling systems, generators, and OFCI items.
  • Track and report on key value drivers including NOI, EBITDA, cash generation, and return on invested capital.
  • Build and continuously refine executive dashboards and recurring reports that summarize budgets, schedules, lead times, and spend patterns across sites.
  • Pull, reconcile, and validate data from Procore, NetSuite, scheduling tools, and procurement logs to ensure accuracy and integrity across reporting.
  • Standardize processes for budget reviews, procurement visibility, risk tracking, and cash flow planning — establishing the operational foundation for a scalable FP&A function for the data center business.
  • Own the preparation of executive dashboards, board materials, and investor presentations that communicate performance, strategy, and outlook with precision and authority.
  • Develop compelling financial narratives that connect operational results to strategic priorities, tailored for senior and external audiences.
  • Support capital raising, debt financing, and lender reporting activities, including management of investor relations deliverables.
  • Act as a trusted financial partner to leaders across construction and development, engineering, commercial sales, accounting, and procurement — influencing decisions with data and insight.
  • Strengthen cost data reliability and improve alignment between construction management and financial systems across the organization.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support contract negotiations, customer deal structures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Drive a culture of financial accountability throughout the organization, with clear standards for performance management and analytical rigor.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing data center FP&A team, establishing clear goals, development pathways, and a culture of excellence.
  • Architect scalable financial systems, processes, and best practices that grow with the business and improve planning accuracy over time.
  • Serve as an organizational leader who earns trust across levels, functions, and geographies.
