About The Position

The Senior Director, Platform Engineering will define, build, and scale the technical foundation beneath Signet Jewelers’ eCommerce storefronts and order management estate. The leader owns solution architecture, cloud platform direction, AI in the software development lifecycle, build and release pipelines, integration platforms, environment and performance engineering, edge delivery, and security engineering across the commerce and order management portfolio. The role supports central standards and federated delivery by ensuring platform capabilities are reusable, governed, secure, and production-ready services used across brands. The Senior Director leads a permanent team of engineers and architects, including a Director leading the architecture practice, and directs contract architecture, DevOps, and environments capacity onshore and offshore. The position is office-based with hybrid flexibility, located in Irving, Texas, or Akron, Ohio, and includes travel between the two sites and periodic time in stores. The role involves viewing a computer monitor for the majority of the working day.

Requirements

  • 15 or more years of progressive technology leadership experience across software engineering, platform engineering, architecture, cloud, or enterprise technology organizations.
  • 7 or more years leading large-scale engineering teams responsible for platform engineering, cloud platforms, architecture practices, or production technology capabilities.
  • Proven experience building and scaling platforms, including reusable services, shared capabilities, APIs, integration frameworks, developer tooling, and production-grade systems used across multiple teams or business units.
  • Hands-on experience owning environments, release pipelines, and performance engineering.
  • Experience leading architects and engineers who do not report directly to the role and influencing teams embedded in delivery.
  • Experience moving capability from a systems integrator or managed service back in house, deciding what remains outsourced, and maintaining standards through the transition.
  • Experience in high-volume consumer eCommerce, retail, or another business with seasonal traffic peaks and a change freeze around them.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Technical skills across commerce platforms such as SAP Commerce (Hybris) and composable/headless commerce patterns; Angular, Spartacus, server-side rendering, pre-render, and full-stack engineering; IBM Sterling Order Management or comparable enterprise OMS; AWS, cloud-native architecture, containers, and Kubernetes; MuleSoft, API design and management, and event-driven patterns; Informatica PIM or comparable product data platforms; Akamai or comparable CDN and WAF, caching, and load/performance testing; CI/CD, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, and test automation; monitoring, logging, tracing, and service-level objectives; AI development lifecycle tools and practices; and security engineering, vulnerability management, and PCI DSS scope in a retail estate.
  • Executive-level communication skills, including the ability to translate technical trade-offs into clear business decisions.
  • Written clarity, including architecture decision records, standards, and briefing material for senior leaders.
  • Vendor and contract management experience, including rate cards, statements of work, and partner performance.
  • Ability to build credibility with experienced leaders and deliver through teams embedded elsewhere.

  • Own AWS cloud platform direction and AI in the software development lifecycle, including tooling standards, cost per team, and measures of effectiveness.
  • Define and mature build and release pipelines, CI/CD, DevSecOps, test automation, and the integration platform to establish a common release path.
  • Own environment management, performance engineering, edge delivery, and pre-render, including capacity, readiness, and stability through peak trading.
  • Establish engineering standards, platform guardrails, reference implementations, and reusable accelerators for secure, scalable, interoperable, and cost-effective delivery.
  • Lead security engineering as the engineering counterpart to Information Security, embedding policy and controls into pipelines, environments, and platform services.
  • Lead a permanent team of engineers and architects, including a Director leading the architecture practice, and direct contract architecture, DevOps, and environments capacity onshore and offshore.
  • Own partner relationships and partner standards, assessing what capabilities should be held internally over time.
