About The Position

The Senior Director, Philanthropy and Community Engagement serves as a senior leader on the External Affairs team and as a key representative of Vivent Health within the local market. This role leads the development and implementation of an integrated regional philanthropy and community engagement strategy that advances Vivent Health’s mission, strengthens visibility and relationships within the community, and supports long-term organizational sustainability and growth. Working collaboratively across External Affairs and in partnership with leaders locally and throughout the organization, the Senior Director brings strong leadership, strategic thinking, relationship-building skills, and a passion for engaging donors, volunteers, partners, and community stakeholders in advancing Vivent Health’s impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 6–8 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, community engagement, or related External Affairs leadership roles, with demonstrated success building and stewarding donor, volunteer, and community relationships.
  • Demonstrated success achieving fundraising goals through individual giving, institutional fundraising, donor stewardship, events, sponsorships, and community-based engagement strategies.
  • Experience partnering with organizational leadership, board members, volunteers, and community stakeholders to advance fundraising and engagement priorities.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing teams while fostering a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on accountability, relationship-building, and community impact.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead, develop, and inspire teams focused on philanthropy, community engagement, and relationship-building.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and steward donors, volunteers, community leaders, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly and compellingly communicate Vivent Health’s mission, vision, impact, and case for support to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and implement integrated fundraising, volunteer engagement, events, and community engagement strategies aligned with organizational priorities and outcomes.
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented approach to working across teams, functions, and markets within a complex and evolving organization.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, drive execution, and adapt to changing needs and opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a market-based regional philanthropy and community engagement team while supporting and advancing both local and national External Affairs strategies aligned with organizational priorities and outcomes.
  • Partner closely with the Chief External Affairs Officer and External Affairs leadership team to share market insights, help shape External Affairs strategy, and support the successful implementation of national marketing campaigns and External Affairs initiatives within the local market.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement across all aspects of the team’s work, including the effective use of technology, systems, and data to support informed and strategic decision-making.
  • Support team development through coaching, goal setting, performance management, and ongoing professional growth opportunities.
  • Ensure annual market-based fundraising goals are achieved through a comprehensive and relationship-driven fundraising strategy.
  • Lead fundraising efforts within the region, with a focus on building and sustaining a strong pipeline of new donors, funders, and community partners, as well as stewarding those longtime donors.
  • Develop individualized engagement strategies for assigned donors and prospects while engaging Vivent Health leadership and board members in key donor and prospect relationship strategies and activities.
  • Partner with colleagues across Vivent Health, specifically our grants team, to develop and advance market-based strategies for institutional funders and private foundations, as well as community foundations, United Way organizations, and other strategic funding partners.
  • Help shape the vision and strategy for community engagement within the local market while collaboratively leading and partnering with local Vivent Health teams working in and implementing community engagement efforts.
  • Bring intention and accountability to community engagement activities to ensure efforts advance priority outcomes and strengthen key partner relationships across the community.
  • Develop strategies for volunteer engagement as a meaningful entry point for individuals, corporate partners, and community members to connect with and support Vivent Health.
  • Serve as a visible representative of Vivent Health in the community by participating in events, speaking on behalf of the organization, and building strategic relationships with local board members, community leaders, funders, and organizations working in adjacent and aligned spaces.
  • Lead the planning and execution of donor identification, cultivation, stewardship, and community engagement events that advance priority outcomes and strengthen relationships with donors and community stakeholders.
  • Serve as a collaborative leader in ensuring events are thoughtfully planned, well executed, completed within budget and established timelines, and aligned with broader External Affairs strategies and goals.
  • Use events strategically as part of Vivent Health’s philanthropy and community engagement efforts, bringing creativity, innovation, and strong relationship-building to the work.
  • Support the successful local activation and implementation of national campaigns, initiatives, and signature engagement opportunities within the regional market.
