About The Position

The Senior Director, Payer Programs, leads the strategic direction and execution of payer program implementations, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory compliance. This role oversees cross-functional teams managing contract negotiations, quality assurance, and vendor relationships to optimize program performance. By driving risk mitigation and continuous process improvements, the position supports sustainable growth and operational excellence. The Senior Director fosters a culture of integrity, collaboration, and talent development, leveraging data-driven insights to enhance outcomes and deliver value to stakeholders across government and commercial payer segments. You will join Walmart’s Payer Relations team, a cross-functional group leading contracting strategy with PBMs, payers, and health plans. This team drives enterprise financial performance, ensures optimal reimbursement for pharmacy and medical services, and shapes strategic partnerships that advance Walmart’s healthcare goals. The team plays a key role in enhancing contracting rigor and implementing innovative payment models. Members collaborate closely to align business strategies, manage regulatory compliance, and mitigate risks, ensuring effective stakeholder communications and successful execution of payer programs that support Walmart’s commitment to delivering value in healthcare.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience directing complex implementation projects and cross-functional teams in healthcare or payer program environments.
  • Strong expertise in negotiating and managing contractual agreements with government and commercial payers.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk mitigation related to federal and state healthcare programs.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic business plans aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills to ensure transparency and collaboration across business units.
  • Demonstrated capability to identify process improvements and drive operational excellence.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years’ experience in billing, healthcare, legal, or related area OR 8 years’ experience in billing, healthcare, legal, or related area.
  • 3 years’ supervisory experience.
