About The Position

Reporting to the Managing Director of Development & Communications and part of a team responsible for securing approximately $4M+ of private revenue annually, the Senior Director of Institutional Giving will work closely with the entire City Year New York (CYNY) development & communications team, staff, corps, and boards to expand our revenue base with corporate and foundation partners. As a member of the Development team, the Senior Director will lead stewardship of current corporate and foundation sponsorships and grants as well as identify and secure new partnership funding to drive student impact through national service.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of fundraising experience, preferably for a non-profit or educational organization
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a management and/or director-level role.
  • Experience working with foundations and corporations, identifying prospects, and writing grant proposals.
  • Proven track record building relationships with high-net-worth donors, corporate executives, and foundation staff and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders and ability to close major gifts.
  • Base of knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, particularly foundations grants and corporate sponsorships, and a proven ability to deliver strong, measurable results and meet fundraising goals.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with an ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences.
  • Excellent research and grant exploration skills.
  • Willingness to occasionally work irregular hours, such as early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to adapt and excel in diverse, high energy, entrepreneurial, and rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build upon CYNY's corporate partnerships strategy to increase funding from $1M+ annually and position the organization as a premier leader in student success and educational opportunity within the community, with a goal of increasing revenue by at least $250,000 in the first 12 months.
  • Strategize, oversee, and manage the Corporate Development Team’s cultivation and stewardship efforts for current and potential partners.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director of Development and Communications to create strategies to identify and secure new corporate supporters, leverage existing relationships, and increase multi-year commitments.
  • Identify, engage, and cultivate a pipeline of corporate and foundation prospects that can make annual and multi-year investments at the $25,000+ level with an emphasis on the $125,000 Team Sponsor level and on diversifying City Year’s support in key sectors.
  • Create and adapt a variety of potential partnership opportunities, including benefits and engagement concepts that align with our program and goals.
  • Oversee engagement strategy of existing Team and Program Sponsorships.
  • Leverage sales of corporate volunteer events to diversify our base of supporters, raising at least $300,000 from these events in FY27.
  • Create tailored proposals and leverage senior leadership, the Advisory Board, and external champions to identify, connect with, and secure new mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Oversee a portfolio of foundations to maintain $1.3M+ funding annually and to increase funding by $200,000 or more within 12 months through active prospecting of new foundation funders.
  • Continue to build a robust portfolio of foundation funders over time, eventually raising at least $2-2.5M per year.
  • Write strong grants that get funded at least 75% of the time.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director of Development, apply knowledge of organizational initiatives to identify, research, and set strategies for grants and foundations that are prospects for CYNY’s initiatives.
  • Build systems to ensure grant progress reports and letters of intent are submitted in a timely manner to maintain ongoing and secure new funding.
  • Manage the Senior Manager of Institutional Giving.
  • Actively manage institutional portfolio and pipeline in Salesforce CRM.
  • Work closely with fellow Development team members to understand priorities and business goals and develop strategies to meet the organization’s needs.
  • Work with the development team to leverage events to increase giving, such as City Year’s annual gala, service days (school beautification projects), and school visits for potential donors.
  • Represent City Year at external and partner functions to establish and deepen potential and current donor relationships.
