Senior Director of Finance

RealWorkAustin, TX
Onsite

About The Position

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will own the finance function and be a member of the executive team. You’ll set strategy for planning, reporting, and the finance systems stack, and you'll also run the monthly close cycle yourself, supported by an outsourced accounting firm and modern tooling (Ramp, QBO, Stripe, Tabs, Avalara). The right candidate is a full-stack SaaS finance operator: fluent in FP&A and SaaS metrics, comfortable reviewing accounting work, and genuinely hands-on with systems and data.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of progressive finance experience, including a senior FP&A or finance leadership role at a B2B SaaS company
  • Deep fluency in SaaS metrics and recurring revenue mechanics: ARR, cohort-based churn, NRR, CAC efficiency, rev rec for subscription businesses
  • Strong accounting literacy - able to review an outsourced close, own rev rec methodology, and support an annual audit without a controller on staff
  • Experience producing lender and/or board-grade reporting packages on fixed monthly deadlines
  • Systems-native: hands-on with tools like Stripe, Ramp, Avalara, and modern billing platforms
  • Enthusiasm for building an AI-first finance org; we run daily automated reporting and finance agents, and expect this leader to extend that stack, not retire it
  • Comfortable as the sole senior finance person: high ownership, low ego, strong judgment on when to build vs. buy vs. outsource
  • Based in Austin, TX or willing to relocate

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at a PE- or venture-backed SMB SaaS company
  • Experience managing outsourced accounting relationships
  • Exposure to usage- or job-data-driven products and BI tooling
  • Previous experience supporting or leading venture financing processes

Responsibilities

  • Run the monthly finance close: revenue recognition, cash forecasting, and budget vs. actual, reconciled across all work streams
  • Review the accounting close executed by our outsourced accounting partner, and manage that relationship
  • Produce monthly financial reporting packages for the board and external parties
  • Own payroll including commission and monthly variable compensation administration
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and the rest of the executive team to plan and evaluate operational investments
  • Own the annual operating model and budget, including all planning assumptions (churn, rep productivity, marketing efficiency, COGS)
  • Build and deliver the financial section of the quarterly board deck and monthly business reviews
  • Oversee cash out: AP and corporate card administration (Ramp), expense policy, payroll approval support, and operating account monitoring
  • Own sales tax compliance across jurisdictions filing calendar, nexus configuration, and return review
  • Serve as internal point of contact for income tax (outside CPA firm), state registrations (CSC), annual audit support, 1099s, and insurance renewals
  • Own the finance data stack: daily automated reporting on churn, cash, billings, and expenses, pulling from Stripe, Ramp, and BigQuery
  • Maintain and extend our finance AI system - agents and a metric catalog built on top of our finance systems
  • Take ownership of the monthly close cycle, commissions, and external reporting packages (lender and partner deliverables)
  • Absorb and document the operating model: assumptions vs. calculated outputs, tie-outs to actuals, refresh cadence
  • Assume administration of the finance systems stack and re-platform individual-owned tooling onto company-controlled infrastructure
  • Lead the 2027 annual planning process starting in October
