About The Position

The Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) is seeking a Senior Director of Finance to lead the organization’s financial operations. This role is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, audit and investments for the VSCPA, Educational Foundation and PAC. The Senior Director of Finance reports to the COO and partners with leadership to support decision-making, ensures strong financial controls and helps position the organization for long-term success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required
  • CPA certification required
  • 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting management experience
  • Strong proficiency of GAAP, financial reporting and audit processes
  • Advanced skills and experience in accounting software/databases, data analytics and forecasting, and strong technical knowledge of AI tools/automation
  • Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to staff, C-suite leadership and board members
  • Direct supervisory and people management skills, with a demonstrated track record of coaching and developing staff, training cross-functional teams and building consensus across all levels of the organization

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leadership on strategic decision making
  • Lead and develop finance team; set goals and support performance
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support financial planning and reporting needs
  • Present financial results and insights to senior leadership, Finance Committee and Board
  • Manage partner relationships and performance
  • Lead monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and key performance metrics
  • Lead annual budget development and long-range financial planning
  • Manage forecasting and projections; provide scenario analysis to support decisions
  • Partner with leadership on revenue strategies, program performance and financial goals
  • Manage year-end close and serve as primary liaison to external auditors
  • Oversee preparation of audit schedules, financial statements and Form 990
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, internal controls and regulatory requirements
  • Provide payroll processing support & approval and benefits administration
  • Support evaluation and implementation of employee benefit programs
  • Assist with retirement plan administration, to include completing the annual census, preparing reports and making recommendations
  • Manage banking relationships, cash flow and account oversight
  • Serve as liaison to investment advisors; monitor performance and policy compliance
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve workflows, automate processes and increase financial reporting and transactional efficiency
  • Maintain and optimize financial systems (e.g., Intacct, budgeting tools); Evaluate tools and systems to ensure the finance function is leveraging technology effectively
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, financial and administrative policies and procedures
