Hopedale Medical Complex•Hopedale, IL
•$115,000 - $130,000•Onsite

About The Position

Hopedale Medical Complex (HMC) is seeking an experienced, highly analytical Senior Director of Finance & Accounting to provide advanced financial expertise and hands-on leadership across our organization. This is an opportunity for a healthcare finance professional who enjoys getting into the details, investigating complex financial questions, improving processes, and translating financial information into meaningful decisions. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable advising senior leadership and digging into general ledger detail to understand why the numbers don't reconcile. As a Critical Access Hospital and healthcare organization, Hopedale Medical Complex operates in a financial environment that requires sound judgment, technical expertise, and a thorough understanding of healthcare reimbursement. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of Finance & Accounting will serve as HMC's senior technical financial leader, with a particular focus on complex accounting matters, financial-data integrity, reimbursement analysis, and financial problem resolution. Rather than focusing solely on high-level financial oversight, the Senior Director will take an active role in researching financial issues, validating information, identifying root causes, and implementing sustainable solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Progressive experience in healthcare accounting, finance, or financial management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial analysis, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated experience independently investigating and resolving complex financial discrepancies.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work directly with detailed financial data.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial information systems.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, department leaders, and accounting professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, MBA, MHA, or other relevant advanced degree or professional certification.
  • Experience in a Critical Access Hospital, rural hospital, or comparable healthcare environment.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare cost reporting, cost-based reimbursement, and healthcare reimbursement methodologies.
  • Experience with cash-flow forecasting, financial modeling, audit support, and complex accounting corrections.
  • Experience leading financial process improvements and strengthening internal controls.
  • Experience with Multiview, CPSI/Trubridge or similar systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently investigate complex financial discrepancies, unusual account balances, reporting inconsistencies, and historical accounting issues.
  • Analyze general ledger activity, reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting documentation to identify root causes and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Work directly with financial systems, reports, and underlying transactional data to validate financial information.
  • Develop practical solutions to improve financial accuracy, reporting reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with the Finance team to resolve significant issues and establish controls that prevent recurrence.
  • Serve as a technical resource on healthcare accounting, Critical Access Hospital reimbursement, and Medicare cost-reporting matters.
  • Evaluate complex reimbursement issues, financial trends, and opportunities affecting organizational performance.
  • Support Medicare cost-report accuracy through technical analysis, review, and collaboration with internal staff and external specialists.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle leadership to analyze reimbursement performance, accounts receivable trends, and other financial issues.
  • Provide advanced analysis supporting cash management, financial forecasting, and organizational liquidity.
  • Provide financial insight and recommendations to executive leadership and Governing Board.
  • Evaluate financial risks, emerging trends, and opportunities for organizational improvement.
  • Lead or support financial feasibility studies for new services, capital investments, and major organizational initiatives.
  • Review complex financial assumptions and analyses supporting budgets, forecasts, and long-term planning.
  • Translate detailed financial findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Identify weaknesses in financial reporting, accounting processes, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Develop and implement improvements that strengthen the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of financial information.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to establish clear expectations for issue resolution, documentation, review, and accountability.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to the Finance and Accounting team.
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, collaboration, continuous improvement, and financial accountability.
