About The Position

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment. The Senior Director of Development, Arts & Science will develop, plan, manage, and implement strategies to increase unrestricted, restricted, and planned gifts for Arts & Science. Manage and maintain a strategic donor portfolio and cultivate, solicit, and close major gifts in the 6-figure to 9-figure range. Engage the highest levels of volunteers through activities such as the Arts & Science board, Dean’s Advisory Council, staffing meetings, working with volunteer and school leadership to identify new prospects, coordinating engagement opportunities, developing major gift and transformational gift opportunities, and overseeing successful stewardship planning. Drive cross-function alignment with other UDAR fundraisers to maximize philanthropic activity and develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies. Develop strong relationships within Arts & Science and lead fundraising efforts that maximize impact and champion the University’s mission and values. Serve as a primary liaison to Arts & Science academic units. Manage and develop development staff and frontline fundraisers, including hiring, training, assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, and supporting professional growth. Travel both domestically and internationally as needed. UDAR encourages work-life integration for our employees, therefore this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 7+ years experience in nonprofit philanthropy and development, including a track record of successfully soliciting 6 to 9-figure gifts, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must include experience managing volunteer groups and supervising staff who support development goals
  • Excellent organization and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively multi-task large scale projects while fostering supportive and collaborative relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to interact successfully with a diverse group of individuals
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree or fundraising certificate
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud/Sunguard and Evertrue database systems or knowledge of fundraising databases
