About The Position

The Senior Director of Construction serves as the senior field operations leader for the West Region and is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the construction execution strategies, workforce management practices, safety culture, quality standards, and operational disciplines necessary to successfully deliver projects safely, efficiently, on schedule, and profitably. This position partners closely with the Vice President, Senior Director of Operational Support, Finance, Estimating, Human Resources, Safety, and Executive Leadership to ensure construction operations are effectively staffed, properly resourced, and consistently executed across all projects and business units. The Senior Director of Construction functions as the regional leader for field execution, workforce productivity, construction management, resource deployment, safety performance, quality control, operational readiness, and continuous improvement of construction operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of extensive field leadership experience and education will be considered.
  • A minimum of 10–12+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction operations, with at least 5 years in a senior regional or divisional oversight role (e.g., Director of Construction, VP of Operations, or equivalent).
  • Proven track record of successfully overseeing a multi-project, multi-business unit portfolio with an aggregate annual volume exceeding $100M+ (or relevant regional scale).
  • Deep experience managing large, diverse field workforces, union/non-union dynamics, and strategic resource allocation across a vast geographic region (West Region experience preferred).
  • Master-level understanding of construction execution strategies, scheduling methodologies, field productivity metrics, and project mobilization practices.
  • Advanced capability in managing regional operational budgets, labor forecasting, equipment utilization strategies, and analyzing financial dashboards to drive profitability.
  • Demonstrated success in diagnosing underperforming projects and rapidly implementing effective construction recovery action plans.
  • Proven experience championing world-class safety cultures with a firm grasp of regulatory compliance (OSHA, MSHA, etc.) and a track record of actively reducing TRIR and DART rates.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and construction operations partner to the Vice President of the West Region.
  • Lead all regional construction execution activities.
  • Establish and maintain construction execution standards and best practices.

  • Facilitate collaboration between Construction, Project Management, Safety, Finance, Estimating, and Executive Leadership.
  • Lead regional construction execution activities to achieve schedule, quality, safety, and productivity objectives.
  • Monitor field production performance and construction progress.
  • Support project startup, mobilization, and operational readiness activities.
  • Coordinate recovery planning and execution for projects experiencing construction performance challenges.
  • Ensure consistency in construction execution across all business units and projects.
  • Support project teams in implementing company standards and operational procedures.
  • Lead workforce planning and deployment strategies across the region.
  • Monitor resource utilization and workforce capacity.
  • Support staffing and organizational planning initiatives.
  • Develop strategies to improve labor productivity and workforce effectiveness.
  • Assist leadership in workforce optimization and organizational development efforts.
  • Support onboarding and integration of construction personnel.
  • Champion a culture of safety excellence throughout the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, regulatory, and contractual safety requirements.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce incidents and improve overall safety performance.
  • Promote quality workmanship and continuous improvement in field execution.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives.
  • Drive accountability for safety and quality performance throughout the organization.
  • Support field labor productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Assist operational leaders in evaluating construction performance and efficiency.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations leadership to improve operational visibility and profitability.
  • Support forecasting of labor, equipment, and construction resources.
  • Assist in identifying operational risks that may impact project performance.
  • Support annual business planning and budgeting efforts.
  • Oversee equipment utilization and deployment strategies.
  • Support fleet and equipment planning initiatives.
  • Ensure projects are properly resourced to execute work efficiently.
  • Improve operational readiness and mobilization effectiveness.
  • Support procurement and logistics planning efforts as required.
  • Develop strategies to improve equipment utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Develop field leadership capabilities throughout the organization.
  • Mentor Directors of Construction, Construction Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen.
  • Promote best practices and operational excellence throughout field operations.
  • Facilitate lessons learned reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives.
  • Strengthen organizational capability and workforce readiness.
  • Prepare executive-level construction performance reports and analyses.
  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives assigned by the Vice President.
  • Support Board of Directors presentations and executive reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate construction planning efforts across multiple projects and business units.
  • Assist with organizational growth initiatives and market expansion efforts.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership regarding construction performance and improvement opportunities.
