Senior Director of Analytics

Complex•New York, NY
•$150,000 - $225,000•Onsite

About The Position

Complex is seeking a senior analytics leader to turn complex and imperfect data into clear business insights and strategic action. The role supports a business spanning eCommerce, Content, Advertising, and Live Events, and requires understanding how these areas operate independently and intersect. The Senior Director will partner directly with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities, solve important business problems, and determine where data can have the greatest impact. The role emphasizes using AI and emerging analytics tools to accelerate analysis, automate repetitive work, and move from questions to insights and action faster—not simply building dashboards. The position leads and develops a team of three analysts, shapes the Analytics roadmap, and influences business strategy and priorities. It partners with Data Engineering to support accurate, accessible, scalable analysis and prioritize data investments based on business value. This role is on-site five days a week at Complex’s New York City or Los Angeles office.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Product Analytics, Strategy, or a similar role, with a track record of influencing business decisions through data.
  • 4+ years of experience managing and developing high-performing analytics professionals.
  • Actively use AI tools for research, analysis, coding, automation, and problem solving, and be interested in improving analytics team productivity with AI.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with a scripting language such as Python or R.
  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics to solve business problems and drive outcomes rather than simply produce reports.
  • Experience working across multiple business functions, products, or revenue streams and synthesizing disparate data sources into a coherent view of the business.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms, and an understanding of dashboards as decision-making tools.
  • Strong statistical and analytical foundation, including the ability to distinguish meaningful signals from noise and correlation from causation.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly when questions are undefined and data is imperfect.
  • Comfort working with incomplete, sparse, inconsistent, or imperfect datasets to reach useful and defensible conclusions.
  • Ability to recognize and challenge assumptions, biases, and limitations in data and human decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate complex findings into concise recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Curiosity about how businesses work and a desire to understand the reasons behind the numbers.
  • Enjoy simplifying complexity across people, processes, data, analysis, visuals, and communication.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with executive leadership and functional leaders to answer important business questions and turn data into business outcomes.
  • Serve as a strategic analytics partner across eCommerce, Content, Advertising, and Live Events, developing a holistic understanding of how the businesses operate and influence one another.
  • Lead and develop a team of three analysts, fostering curiosity, business impact, rigorous thinking, and continuous learning.
  • Translate ambiguous business problems into actionable analysis by determining the necessary data, challenging assumptions, and assessing what conclusions can reasonably be drawn.
  • Use AI, automation, scripting, and other modern analytical tools to increase the speed and effectiveness of the team.
  • Analyze trends, customer behavior, business performance, and other signals to identify opportunities and risks, and communicate clear recommendations.
  • Influence business strategy and priorities by explaining what is happening, why it is happening, and what the business should do.
  • Shape and prioritize the Analytics roadmap according to potential business impact.
  • Partner with Data Engineering to support accurate, accessible, scalable analysis and prioritize data investments with strong business value.
  • Balance speed and analytical rigor, choosing between directional answers and deeper investigation as appropriate.
  • Turn complex data, processes, and analytical findings into clear narratives and recommendations for executives and cross-functional teams.
