About The Position

The Senior Director of Market Development Initiatives (MDI) provides strategic and operational leadership for Walker-Miller's clean energy workforce development, contractor development, technical training, and market development portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Operations & Business Development, this role is accountable for portfolio performance, financial results, client outcomes, operational excellence, data governance, and organizational growth across multiple utility and market development programs. The Senior Director leads multidisciplinary teams responsible for program delivery, technical training, analytics, and continuous improvement while driving innovation, overseeing new program launches, strengthening industry partnerships, and supporting business development efforts that position Walker-Miller as a recognized leader in clean energy workforce and contractor development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of five years managerial experience.
  • 7+ years proven success in the workforce development industry.
  • 5+ years of workforce and contractor development program management experience.
  • 5+ years experience in managing and expanding utility and business partner relationships.
  • Proven track record in managing highly effective workforce development programs that have multiple funding sources and milestone outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team, motivating employees and generating results in a multiple state environment that encourages a collaborative work environment and core values culture for all team members.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-million-dollar contracts, key account client relationships, business development, and staff and resource management and P&L management.
  • Experience in the clean energy industry.
  • Strategic, hands-on leadership with exceptional organizational, communications, and people management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization, including executive and C-level.
  • Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a results-driven environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with at Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Embrace, operate and lead within the core values.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Market Development Initiatives (MDI) portfolio, including workforce development, contractor development, technical training, and related clean energy market development programs.
  • Direct and develop multidisciplinary teams responsible for program delivery, technical training, data analytics, operations, and performance management.
  • Establish and execute MDI portfolio strategies that align organizational objectives, client priorities, market opportunities, and contractual requirements.
  • Drive operational excellence through the development, implementation, and governance of standardized processes, tools, performance metrics, and best practices across all MDI programs.
  • Oversee the successful startup, mobilization, implementation, and transition of new MDI programs, clients, and service territories.
  • Provide executive oversight of Building Performance Institute (BPI) instructors and technical training teams responsible for workforce education, certifications, testing, and credential attainment.
  • Lead the development and management of enterprise-wide MDI data systems, repositories, dashboards, and reporting processes to ensure data integrity, consistency, accuracy, and credibility.
  • Maintain full MDI portfolio P&L accountability, including revenue, expenses, gross margin, forecasting, and profitability.
  • Ensure achievement of contractual deliverables, client performance metrics, compliance requirements, client priorities and program outcomes across the MDI portfolio.
  • Build, maintain and leverage strategic relationships with utility clients, workforce organizations, educational institutions, contractors, community partners, industry associations, and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging workforce needs, policy developments, and market opportunities to drive innovation and strengthen position as a workforce development industry leader.
  • Partner with Business Development and contribute industry expertise to pursue and acquire new contracts, rebids, program expansions, and strategic growth opportunities for MDI, including identification of opportunities to expand services, increase scope, and strengthen client partnerships.
  • Serve as a senior representative and thought leader at client meetings, industry events, advisory boards, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams, including 4-6 direct reports, through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and professional development based on a core value driven culture that encourages top performance with compassion.
  • Serve as a member of the Operations leadership team, partnering with executive leadership to establish strategic priorities and drive enterprise growth and performance.
