About The Position

The Senior Director, Global Medical Affairs (GMA) Inflammation Strategy is a key member of the GMA Liver, Inflammation, Emerging Viruses, and Established Products (LIVE) leadership team, reporting to the Executive Director, GMA LIVE. We are seeking a Medical Affairs leader who will be responsible for driving MA contributions to the governance, scientific, commercialization, and lifecycle management strategies for our inflammation pipeline. This individual will build and lead a team committed to creation and execution of strategic initiatives, insights gathering, engagement of key opinion leaders, advisory boards and evidence generation. The team will collaborate with colleagues throughout the Gilead organization as well as the external investigator and other key external stakeholders. This role will be office-based at our headquarters in Foster City, CA.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) required, with at least 12+ years of relevant industry/clinical experience required, preferably within the inflammation therapeutic area.
  • MD/DO with training in an inflammation-related therapeutic area preferred (rheumatology, immunology, inflammatory bowel disease, dermatology, etc)
  • At least 5 years of Pharma industry experience, with prior launch experience preferred
  • People management experience highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, visual communication, and interpersonal skills are required
  • Ability to develop productive, credible collaborations with cross-functional partners
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to identify and interpret complex issues.
  • Opportunistic thinker with strong judgement and analytical mindset
  • Ability to synthesize findings and clearly articulate implications from multiple sources of information, and to formulate strong, actionable recommendations

Responsibilities

  • Lead Medical Affairs activities and initiatives pertaining to the inflammation pipeline, with a focus of developing and leading a strong Medical Affairs presence in the Gilead governance structure and inflammation therapeutic areas
  • Build and lead a team of 3-6 talented professionals to build the Gilead presence in new therapeutic areas, providing leadership, supervision, mentoring, and career development
  • Collaborate with Clinical Development, Global Strategic Marketing, Global Value and Access, Medical Affairs Research, affiliate Medical Affairs teams, and other cross-functional teams across varied initiatives including strategic plan development and implementation, evidence generation, scientific resource development, conference activities, and internal training
  • Build organizational capabilities in medical strategy, evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and launch readiness for inflammation assets
  • Responsible for medical affairs evaluation and input into clinical planning and contribution to clinical trials across the asset lifecycle (Phase 1/2 through Phase 4), and communication of research needs to Clinical Development team, to ensure clinical programs meet the needs of patients, prescribers, and payers in both global and US markets
  • Leads Medical Affairs commitment to execution of research studies, supporting site evaluation and investigator engagement where needed
  • As a therapeutic area expert, serve as the Global Medical Affairs representative on strategic cross-functional working groups, across Gilead and Kite
  • Ensure alignment of team activities across the inflammation portfolio and wider GMA organization
  • Support cross-functional data generation efforts, including serving as core member of data generation strategy and execution teams
  • Attend major global scientific conferences and lead strategic planning and execution of key conference deliverables/activities
  • Serve as MA lead on select scientific issues/topics using expertise to develop global scientific messages, inform strategy and drive strategic resource development
  • Provide training within the inflammation therapeutic area on relevant topics for Medical Affairs and cross-functional personnel
  • Drives MA pre-launch planning for assets in development, including organization and medical affairs strategy
  • Provides medical due diligence to support business development and partnering evaluations
